I don't know. I just know from the 360 on Ferrari tried to start making any little thing require the SD and then all of a sudden they only sold it to dealers and threatened beheadings if any that got out to independents. Independents still got their hands on them and now there are even 3rd party tools like the Leonardo.

As I recall, the SD (or laptop w/ factory software) controlled the bleeding process and told the tech which bleeder to open and when. I think it was supposed to be a more precise bleeding process, but I'd have to do more research to be absolutely certain.

As I said above, we did it on 360CH cars *ALL THE TIME* without the SD or laptop.

[Interestingly, and tangentially, the factory software on a laptop also gives percentage of clutch useage. Not really sure how that worked, but I don't think it was an actual measurement of any sort - I think it calculated based on miles driven in each gear and how agressively the car was launched. Still interesting....]

oh no, if that's true that is hilariously sad! when I take my GranSport in I religiously accept whatever clutch wear they tell me.

I remember my friend took his earlyish 360 to his usual independent mechanic for a brake bleed pre a track day. I don't remember the exact circumstances, but the car went into limp mode and had to go to the dealer for a 'reset'

Also, just from memory, I think the SD is needed to bleed the abs pump or something?

I think all that happened, now that I think about it, was the mechanic turned on the ignition while bleeding the brakes??? Don't hold me to it. Anyway, car thought it had a fluid leak and that was the end of that.

While I don't have experience on Ferrari, a lot of the manufactures use scan tools to do bleeds that involve the abs system. Calipers and other parts downstream of the abs don't require it, but the hcu and master cyl do. It cycles the valves while your bleeding to purge the air.

Sam - nope. *Still* haven't gotten around to listing it. Too busy this summer working and traveling and having fun with the kids, but have been meaning to put an ad up.

I do have a title for it, so that might be of interest to some buyers (theoretically could register it for the street, though it'd never pass inspection).... :)

    vty,

    Hi Dennis,
I'm considering buying a Challenge car, so if you're still interested in selling your 355 send me some information.
    Thanks,
    Sam
