Hi all, I thought that i would post the final outcome of my console light situation to help anyone else in the same boat. I recently bought my first Ferrari (1991 348tb) and made a 'to do' list of things that i wanted to fix. One of the items was that my 'fuel door' and 'hazard' console buttons were not backlit like the others. I carefully disassembled the console and removed both modules from the car which turned out to be a fairly easy task. I took them to a local electronics store that specializes in fixing automobile stereos and such and they replaced all eight tiny lightbulbs that are soldered in place. I reinstalled the modules and VOILA ... backlit buttons! Total cost... $73 Love it when things go according to plan!
You are probably right Steve. It would have been the time to do it. The turn around time was super fast though and i typically only keep my cars about a year or so... hopefully they will last till then.
Okay... after being so happy getting all of my backlit console switches working i put the whole thing together and now my 'parking lights' switch does nothing... except be backlit! I checked the owner's manual and did not find instruction on how or when this switch actually works. How does this parking light switch differ from rotating the headlight stalk one notch?? I do know that before i removed the module the 'parking lights' switch did do something... at least it made the little pretty blue (as i recall it was blue) 'P' light up directly above the button. This is a US spec car via Japan. What on earth have i done to myself now?? Please help!!
hmmm... if the ignition is on or off, and you push that button, the green indicator light just above the button should come on. The yellow parking lights within the foglight units, and the 2 outside tail lights should come on... the side markers do not come on. Have you checked to see if the marker lights come on? it may just be the indicator light bulb that's burned out, or not seated properly as a result of you removing the buttons.
The exact same thing just happened to me the switch worked fine then it stopped I also can't figure out the need for this oh well how does that saying go "Ours is not to reason why ours is to do and fix that damn light " something like that ... Let me know how you resolve the problem I will be trying on my end as well..
how did you find the place you took your buttons to? did you search the internet? i would like to go ahead and take these to get fixed as well if it is that inexpensive. any suggestions would be great here in Houston, TX
Hi Houston, The easiest way to find a shop that can replace your console lights is to ask a reputable local car audio specialty place for the name of the place that they send their warranty stuff. The place i went to is the warranty depot for Alpine and others. I dropped it off in the morning and picked it up that afternoon. That same place had replaced faulty bulbs in my Jeep radio years ago. Good luck!
