console panel replication

    If you ever need to replicate a panel, I found a pretty decent technique. I needed part of the console modified for my re-engineering of the HVAC system (see "348 climate control alternative" below). But I wasn't happy with the look of the panel I made. Cutting out all those squares was impossible. This time I used plastic and a table saw to cut 2 lengths of square plastic rod the exact size of the squares in the panel. I sliced them like thick salami and crazy glued them to a sheet of steel, got 2 slices of PVC pipe for the instrument holes, clamped borders of plastic around the edges, waxed the hell out of the mold, then smooshed "Bondo Hair" in the nooks and crannies.... presto! Of course now I have holes and slots to make for the other bits and pieces, but I'm starting with a more original looking panel
