I am a new 348 owner. When engine starts there is a constant drone in my left ear. Sound is not rpm dependent. most noticeable at idle. Drone continues even after warm. Even though drivers side seat belt is inoperable(lite's on), I don't think it' s the warning buzzer as the drone is coming from the rear. Most noticeable from inside the car but is still perceptible if I poke head in engine caompartment. Any Ideas.
Welcome to Fchat Bob. Could you be more specific about the location of the noise and the year and model of your 348? Somebody here has surely experienced and solved the problem. As a side note, sometimes new owners experience a drone from the woman who was deserted in favor of the Ferrari. Could that be it?
Is the noise most prominent when you listen through the air intake behind the quarter window? If so, it's probably the cold air injection system, and the noise is normal during warmup, but it should stop once the engine reaches operating temperature, and the noise should be the same on the left and right sides of the car. I wonder if it's possible that you have a defective check valve, and the exhaust pulses are blowing back into the air cleaner? Congrats on your new 348, and welcome to FChat!
My new freind is a 1991 348TS, and thank you for the welcome. Noise appears to be right behind my head..perhaps behiond one of those panels(removable??). No problem with the woman...
Nope. Only droning with engine running. What about the check valve? What is it.... how do I check the check valve (Ha! Ha!)
I was thinking similar to Jeff, when I start mine there is a high pitch whine that is coming from a small canister on the drivers side rear just inside the fender. It stops once warm and once you know it's "normal" no worries. The guys here I'm sure will work it out. Every noise freaked me out in the beginning, it gets better!
