Searched the bank and no match....Is ther a simple formula for converting Kilometers to miles that I can punch in on my calculator. Thanks, Michael
Hard to believe: Go to google and type in "convert Km to Miles" and you get thousands of responses. Un frikin' believable.......
60% is a good rule of thumb. I was one happy little camper last summer when I was driving in Canada and saw the 100 KPM speed limit signs. Hot damn! My kinda place! It was only later that someone pointed out the 60% rule. Plus, apparently, the RMP don't have much of sense of humor.
3850 kilometers X .62 = 2387 miles 3850 kilometers X 5= 19250 divide by 8 = 2406 miles What do we have here?
LOL, thats a great one and very easy to handle Whats up with this one: multiply by 4 and divide by 7 and add 10%
Michael -- The conversion factor that I gave is accurate to two decimal places; the conversion factor that Malcolm gave was an "easy to remember" approximation; the conversion factor that Wolfgang gave was funny and cleverly complex . If you want to calculate it to a meaningless number of significant digits, the formula is: (number of Kilometers) * 0.62137119 = number of Miles
OK boys and girls, here it is. There are few exact numbers when it comes to changing systems of units. So let's take it this way. There are exactly 1000 meters in a kilometer There are exactly 100 centimeters in one meter. There are exactly 2.54 centimeters in one inch. There are exactly 12 inches in one foot. There are exactly 5280 feet in one mile. So..... There are exactly 12*5280 inches in a mile There are exactly 12*5280*2.54 cm in a mile There are exactly 12*5280*2.54/100 meters in a mile There are exactly 12*5280*2.54*/100/1000 kilometers in a mile So..... One kilometer is the reciprocal of the above or 1/1.609344 = 0.62137....mile
I'll never forget going to summer camp. All of the kids were bragging about how fast their dads would drive "My dad has a Shelby Mustang, and he took me up to 90 once!" This one foreign kid, I think he was from Canada or Australia said with a rather unexcited expression "What's the big deal, my dad drives 100 all the time" At the time nobody believed him, but looking back on it years later I realized that he was talking kilometers. My car has 3850 Kilometers. Got 4 different answers, but I like this one the best! Thanks Guys. http://www.onlineconversion.com/length_common.htm
"Plus, apparently, the RMP don't have much of sense of humor" Don't know about the RMP, but the RCMP have been known to let a few things slide here and there. I'd much rather deal with the RCMP than some of the tactics I've heard down south. Just don't get caught street racing.
Sorry about the C, eh? After the GP last summer, I drove a Porsche up to Mt. Tremblant. I did feel a bit conspicuous amoung all the trucks and SUVs. And don't take this personally, but the roads were awful! Tremblant was great, but the highway up there was as bad as anything in Houston. I also kept the speed down because I felt naked without my V1.
