I did the 430 exhaust modification for my 360. Best investment I made although I ended up taking it out when I got offered a new CS exhaust box.

I also had a hidden switch placed under the dash to open and close the valves. A must have mod!

Data for my converted exhaust. I kept the 430 tips. Like the look.

Old thread when I measured CS style on my 360:
Installed the CS type exhaust using 430 can and modified pipes. To my ears, the same as OEM CS system.
Quieter than my former Tubi at idle and normal driving. Louder when valves open. Very pleased!
To be filed under useless information. Based on MA cracking down on loud exhaust over the past few years(Due to Harley straight pipes primarily).
Ran a very unscientific test on the CS style exhaust.
    Instrument: Reed R8050 Sound Meter.
    Setting used: Peak dBA measurement.
    At idle: 84dBA
    At 3.5~4k rpm: 94dBA
    Valve opens: 101dBA
Placed the instrument at outlet height, 30" out, halfway between outlets.
For reference, my understanding, open pipe Harley +110dBA.
    Never measured Tubi.
CA limit is 90dBA I believe. MA not as defined.

Initial startup was "Wow! This thing is loud even with the valves closed!". Then I realized the valves were actually stuck open for some reason. I drove it about 10 mins then the valves seemed to close and it sounded almost identical to the stock muffler. I ran it through the gears and did not notice the valves opening at higher RPM (I think they are supposed to open at 6,000?)... in fact they didn't open at all. I pulled over, killed the car, popped the engine cover and unplugged them so they would be open constantly as I wanted to hear it at high RPM now that it was warm. Wow! Simply amazing. It's a completely different car. I do think driving with them open 24/7 would get annoying, especially coming off a stop. The downshifts are absolutely brutal. I would like to find out why my valves are not opening at higher RPM then will be discussing a custom tune with @360trev. Absolutely love the new personality of the car!

My fabricator will be able to convert OE 430 pipes for others in the future. Please PM me if you would like me to connect you.

    Fabricator did a great job!

those tips work imo very well

the vac op ex valves are pretty simple

make sure the solenoid connections are attached

make sure the vac lines are attached to the control solenoids

perhaps the 430 valve operate opposite of the 360 valves??

Wait till you get the tune from Av and trev. I'm using it and the valves open sooner and it makes the car a different animal.

Solenoids are plugged in. Vac lines are all new and attached to solenoids. 430 and 360 valves are identical in function from what I understand. The solenoids are definitely pulling vacuum to close the valves, just don’t seem to be releasing vac to open valves at 6k rpm as designed.

If you have your 360 flappers .. compare the operation to your new 430 flappers.

    make sure they are same

    vac open vs vac closed.

If they were backwards the system would be open at idle which is not the case. I think the issues lies in the solenoids triggering. Not sure if they are just tired or what, they have been unplugged for a few years.

At start, before vacuum, valves open, close quickly once vacuum level reached. When specified rpm reached ECU sends signal to open valves. Connections clean?
I had to adjust the valves slightly to get them to close all the way. Simple system.

When I unplug the electrical connection on the solenoid the valves stay closed. Aren't they supposed to open if the solenoid is unplugged?

4 years ago I made a cold start video of my converted exhaust.

I figured out the solenoid/valve issue. I simply had them plumbed incorrectly. I drove the car about 75 miles today with the valves active and I honestly could not be more pleased. With the valves closed around town, the sound is just a tad more aggressive than stock. On throttle it is much deeper in tone. Once the valves open at higher RPM the car just absolutely transforms and SCREAMS. I absolutely love this setup. For anyone considering the swap - DO IT. You will absolutely love the results.

Thank you for providing the updates and congratulations on seeing it through! Glad to hear it is all sorted now. I'm just wondering how it would sound with the factory headers and cats. Guess I will just have to modify mine and hope it sounds similar.

The numbers I listed in a prior post were 2001 360 spider, stock headers and cats. Similar to the exhaust set-up as a stock CS. Sound is close to identical.
As AV states on his site. 95% of CS sound. Difference attributed to different intake on the CS motor.

Short on-ramp blast today... taken with iphone. You can definitely hear the transition when the valves open.

I will record higher quality video/audio soon.
