Is this easy to do? Is it something I can learn to do on my own? What graphics program do I need to use?

Also, there is a website out there that has vector art of thousands of company logos. As in, name the company, and they have 4 or 5 versions of the company logo in vector format. I can't remember the name of the site. Anyone? Bueller?

edit: I found it in case anyone cares. www.brandsoftheworld.com

It's an amazing website. I needed a vector logo for an extremely random and obscure junior hockey team in canada and they had exactly what I needed!

    I'll quit blogging now.

If you want to do this yourself, Corel Draw has a helper program called Corel Trace. You can take a picture and allow Corel Trace to automaticaly line-draw the picture; is the best way I can describe it. But the only drawback is that the program is not perfect. The more art and colors the picture contains, the more distortions occur during the trace and you end up with a glob of something that is not the picture. If you have a picture that is something simple as a logo, chances are Corel Trace will do a good scan.

...but you're not quite finished. Once you have a trace, now turned vector art, you need to spend some time zooming in and tweaking the lines and connect points until you get it to a quality image. I use Corel Draw 11 and it seems to work very well. Sometimes it's just better to draw a logo from scratch. Hope this helps.

If you want it done right, you do it yourself! This one I've been working on for about 30 hours. Everything has been drawn by me, there are no simple filters or anything applied to the original image. So those reflections, even everything on the wheels has been done by hand :).

This is obviously not done, by the way. The tires are stand-ins and of course the rear has much to be done! The entire underbody is being redone as well for quite a bit more detail.

adobe illustrator cs2 has a trace/paint option now. works quite well. but, as iceburns mentioned if you want it done right, you have to do it yourself.
