I have a couple of old records that used to belong to my father-in-law that they used to play for my kids when they visited. My kids love them, and since I don't have a record player, I would like to find out if there is a way to convert these to CD's.

I tried a search on the internet, but without much luck.

    Anyone have any ideas?

I can't help much but to say a friend has it set up and it's pretty slick. You get a sound card and the T-table plugs right in. Then there's special software you can get (can't remember where from) that takes out the pops and everything, then I guess it's just like making CD's on your computer.

Definately on my To-Do list as well. Good luck!

Record to amp to cd-r for constant recording or record to tape to cd-r

You can also get an audio box for a computer and then connect the record player to that and then record the record to your hard drive and then burn it to a cd.

You need something to play them on first.

I know, that's the problem. I don't have a record player, and don't have any desire to have one. It's just a couple of records (LP's?).

I was hoping that there was somekind of a service where I could just ship them off somewhere and for a price have them converted to CD.

I doubt you will find anyone to do this due to copyright laws.

I thought you were allowed to make personal copies for backup?? Also, would copyright laws still apply to records (I think one of these is from late 60's early 70's).

What are the records? Perhaps they are alreatd available on CD or sombody already ripped them to MP3's.

Also, this type of thing is easy as pie... if you own a Mac.

    Dom,

Worse case, I still have an old turntable in storage. You're welcome to use that.

It's cheaper/faster to buy the songs you want as MP3's.

I picked up the gear to do this a few years back and only got through a half-dozen albums before running out of steam. ATI Audigy card, with an old turntable and amp in an old receiver plus cables. Sony has a turntable out with the pre-amp built in, but not worth it for a couple of discs.

    good luck
