Been smoking meats for a few years now on some cobbled gear. It's been pretty decent but I've had the bug for a real smoker. I don't want a huge pit quite yet so I'm going to build one of these Ugly Drum Smoker!

Should be getting two drums tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be doing some ribs for Sunday at the Masters! A tradition unlike any other.

Anybody else ever try one of these UDS's or have a cool pit?

I have a legit fire box smoker (of the 400# variety) waiting for me at Pop's house. I'll grab that bad boy one of these days....

In the meantime it's all about the Weber!

Just picked up a Chargriller Smokin' Pro with the offset box and charcoal lighter attachment on the other side.

    $75 on Craigslist.

First to go in are some pork chops and sausage. I'll report back later :D

I definitely really want to get and or build a smoker! It may have to wait until after the summer though since I'm planning to move in August. Either way though, I will have one before the year is out! Mmmm, I'd love me some smoked and slow cooked ribs!

We got lucky. The rain waited until almost 9pm to come so Eric's day with Rodney and Holly Robinson Peete went off great! :)

Well it appears my $75 is a waste. Had a hell of a time trying to keep temperature.
    :(

apparently those need a few minor modifications in order to work better. From what I hear mainly a fire damper at the entry and a modified exhaust...much like a car. :)

    It's sunny.

Got the Ugly Drum Smoker built. Only thing left is to build the coal basket...which should be done tomorrow.

Couldn't resist seasoning it, so it's rubbed down, threw some lump in the bottom and a few lit briquets on top of that. Right now it's holding at 250, hoping it goes up a bit more to season as the lump gets going.
