Don't count on it not being sold soon (well, meaning in the next 10 years soon - not next week soon ).

Is Lewis in love with the F1LM? I don't know... if he's not, the car will be sold. I know Schumacher got a lot of cars free over his career and the vast majority of them made their way to the market. The F1LM may hold a special place for him, and it may not. He may be much more emotionally attached to the actual F1 cars than the McLaren F1LM... if I were Lewis, I'd want one of each car I won a WDC in at a minimum

That's a very good idea about the F1LM. If I was a billionaire I think I'd do the same thing!

Not sure exactly what you mean. I was simply commenting on your statement that the car was the last one made which is not the case.

As mentioned this LM that may eventually end up in Hamilton's possession was the prototype. It has a few slight differences with the production versions - nothing that most would notice. The factory has used it just a few times in 13 years, but for the most part it has been stored inside the factory. Most recently it has been on display at the new McLaren Technology Centre alongside some other pieces of McLaren history.

The five production LMs built in 1996 were all sold before they were built. Brunei took 3 of them (LM1, LM4 and LM5) with the last one being the only orange one of that trio. The other two were Black/Grey with flag graphics. The 2nd production LM built (LM2) went to Japan and is still with its original owner. The 3rd production LM built (LM3) started in the UK with David Morrison, then came to the USA in ~2002 to Mr Selldorff and at the end of 2004 was sold again to Ralph Lauren.

As far as overall condition, it would be safe to assume that the three in Brunei might have some issues due to the climate there and the probable lack of care those cars get these days. In fact the orange one (LM5) was rumored to have been parked in front of one of the palaces as a display piece, outside in the elements.

The one in Japan has hardly moved from inside the ZAZ Museum where it is displayed so far as I can tell.

The one now in the USA has seen the most use, having participated in a Gumball Rally before coming to the USA. It arrived here with about 3,226 miles on the odometer. In Ralph's possession the odometer was photographed again at 4,518 miles. Shortly after Ralph purchased LM3 it was in an accident at Englishtown Raceway while undergoing shakedown testing after service work, but he sent the car back to the factory for repairs so any issues related to that should have been sorted out to perfection.

Even though I really do like the McLaren F1LM, It Still doesn't get me to like LH!

And with all the money that RD has invested in LH, I think LH, his father and his brothers should all be getting on their knees for that car if he LH wins 3 WDC's.

What I meant was that the McLaren HQ F1-LM was the last one made that was kept in such condition - i.e. hardly used.

I didn't know the one in Japan hadn't been used, so I was wrong

Hopefully Hamilton's F1LM or the Japan one will be for sale when I am for-buying

 

I'm surprised Lewis is so much in love with a BMW-powered car given his team is Mercedes owned (partially). I'd ask for a Mercedes Sauber C9 or C11 and make it street legal. Then again, BMW owns Sauber now and may say no, LOL!
