Clipping the wings of a clipped wing aircraft doesn't thrill me much. It increases the roll rate but at the same time it decreases the L/D to the point were you have to fly at an increased angle of attack that increases the drag and that decreases the.....Oh, well.

My gut sense is that the regular wing length with four ailerons would have a better roll rate anyway, plus better flying characteristics.

Not unusual to see clipped wings on Reno Air Race Pitts. A few even had entirely new wings, changing the airfoil shape.

They were made to be aerobatic planes, not pylon racers.

Very cool. Those Guppies are all that remains of the last 377 commercial airframes in the world. The rest were scrapped. We do still have a lot of C97/KC97's left.

Here are a few pictures I took near Chicago on the Illinois/Wisconsin border. This is a museum just off Russell Road on the state line right off the tollway. Some strange Russian aircraft/helicopters on display.

Looks like a Mark XIV Spitfire, but could be a later model. The Spitefuls did away with the elliptical wing tips.

As far as I'm aware she's a Spitfire.

You're right... I was looking at the bubble canopy and 5 bladed prop and assumed Spiteful.

So it is Griffon powered, I assume.

It is a Mark XIV Spit (found a pic of Conmemorative AF M. XIV).

That looks like some photo parallax...or maybe just one lax. Hard to tell.

I suspect this photo has been on the web forever; but just pulled it off LinkedIn

The only picture ever taken of Concorde flying at Mach 2 (1,350 mph). Taken from an RAF Tornado fighter jet, which only rendezvoused with Concorde for 4 minutes over the Irish Sea: The Tornado was rapidly running out of fuel, struggling to keep up with Concorde at Mach 2
