I’ve been having a small coolant leak since I bought my car and finally got around to diagnosing it. The leak showed up from the front bottom of the engine, which had me worried it was a water pump leak. I guess it still could be, but after taking off the top cover, I noticed some wetness around the thermostat housing. I may try just a quick snugging up of the nuts, but if that doesn’t do the trick, I’ll probably need to pull the housing off, clean up the surfaces, and maybe put on a new gasket. It’s very possible it’s just the hose that’s leaking or maybe it’s leaking from both spots. Either way, if anybody runs into a leak like this, the cover on top of the engine hides a ton of places the leak could be coming from.

Living on a prayer... tighten up all those hose clamps you can see. I mean really really tight. A lot more than you are comfortable with. A pressure tester is valuable.

It might help to upgrade to a "constant tension hose clamp". You can find them on mcmaster.

This is a solution to mclaren hose clamps and could apply here.

I have some laying around from a repair to a Subaru with turbo leaks. It’s probably worth putting one on if I have the right size. Will tighten things up and see how it goes today.

So far so good with tightening up the hose clamp. The housing itself seemed to be tightened properly. Went for a 15-minute drive and everything appears to be dry. If that permanently fixes the leak, that’ll be one of the easier repairs I’ll do on this car. I’ll take it.
