I had a nice month of enjoying my car driving around after rebuilding the Water pump seeing how cool it was running. Today new problem, I have a coolant pouring from bottom of engine towards the back on the garage floor. I checked the valley it is dry. Back of the engine from top is dry too. I have not remove the under the engine cover to check where is coming from. I know all the trouble making hoses are in the valley. Any experienced friend can make a comments. I hate to go trough the pain of removing the plenum for nothing. Thanks

Sark, I'd get the undercover off and get it up on a lift with the expansion tank full, and the cooling system pressurised with a Stant pump, and see if you can see where it's coming from.

There's so many possibilities for leakage it's tough to speculate where it could be coming from.

The most likely culprit, unfortunately, is always the last thing you fooled with :) Of course, it could also be that since you rebuilt the pump, it's working so much better now, that the next weakest bit in the system failed.

Stant makes an adapter that is our screw pattern of the tank cap. I forget which one it is.

    Sark,
The first thing I would do is take off the front belt shields and look very carefully at the water pump, particularly the port on its underside. If the placement of the sealing ring wasn't perfect inside the water pump it will leak out of that port on the underside. Doing this and removing the undertray will reveal the answer, I bet.
I agree with John...start with the most likely possibility.
    Best of luck...take pictures :)

    Regards,
    Pete

Today I took the water pump cover and the under tray off. Onestly I don't see any trace of coolant there. The water pump drain port and underneath gears and belts showes no sign of collant spots. Underneath and the sides of engines where dry too. I believe I should wait until the pressure tester arrives.

Today I received the Stant 12018 adaptor in mail, it dose not fit on the tank. Appears to have different treads, anybody knows the right adaptor so I can proceed with the diagnosis. Any help appreciated. Sark

did you measure it or guess the size. I get 44.8mm x 4mm so maybe the thread is 45x4 metric?

Does your car have the two electric water pumps at the rear of the engine, like in my 456?

Could be a hose failure there.

FBB, I did not measure it myself, it was recommended by somebody on this forum.
Mr V. I don't think 550 has electrical water pump, except the heather pump.

FBB, I am thinking of using the actual coolant tank cap as an adapter.
