Simple question, is the coolant level as measured in the overflow tank supposed to be measured from the top of the neck/sealing surface where the pressure cap goes on to the surface of the coollant in the tank, or from where the neck joins the tank to the coolant? When I fill the tank with the measure per the owners manual at 6cm below the top of the neck, I get some overflow when the car is hot. The owners manual diagram is not pictiorially clear, please advise. No other heating/cooling problems...

I have always measured from the top of the filler neck as you have, that is the only way that makes sense, and how you can measure with any level of accuracy. My 308 and 328 did not seem to have a problem with that level to the best of my recollection, but many others have experienced what you have, that it will not tolerate that level and will spit or spew some coolant out until it finds it's own natural equalibrium. Let it do that, and let it be. It will not continue to do so, once it finds it's own level.

It is possible your cap for your expansion tank is worn, so a new, four ear, 1.1 bar may help. But I also know from other posts that people have tried that and it did not help. Again, if you have no other issues, other than getting it to stay at 6cm from the top, leave it be and don't worry about it.

The car will determine its own level. There is no "ONE" right spot.
    Too many variables for that.
