    Hi Guys:

So I noticed my motor was getting warmer than usual and I checked the coolant to find it was low. This is the second time this has happened since I picked up from the shop.

A couple of questions, I do see coolant leaking from the front of the radiator seam, and after a long drive yesterday I opened the hood, and saw some coolant sprayed on the inside of it. Can I lose a lot of coolant when it is under pressure?

As soon as the car shuts off the radiator makes a hissing sound for about 5 minutes. I assume this is a leak somewhere venting steam?

Also, put my finger into the expansion tank and it is empty?

Yes, a very tiny 5 micron hole can lose about a pint per minute at 220dF.

Sounds like a coolant leak, have the cooling system pressure tested to find the leak mate. :)

I've often heard of them as header tanks, the ones on the 400 are supposed to be dry...that's in its cold state. The radiator cap is not a pressurized one, just a plain cap...the header tank has the pressurized cap. Completely opposite of regular cars. Coolant will expand into the header tank when up to temp. & will be drawn down as the system cools. But I don't think the overflow tube in the header tank draws every last drop out. :(
