Hello guys, my coolant temp gauge (between the speedo and tach) quit working. Hopefully it’s the sensor and not the gauge. Where is that sensor located? Also, is there a way to test the gauge? Thanks in advance.

By coincidence, I was looking at mine a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, it's buried in the engine "V", inboard of the #2 cylinder:

You may be able to reposition the coolant tank to get to it.

I can't recall if it operates in a similar manner to the coolant temp "sensors"... i.e. high resistance = low temperature. If it does, perhaps the plug has just fallen off.

The wiring for the sender goes through a 12 pin waterproof connector near the left hand rear strut. You may be able to do resistance checks on the sender via this connector before pulling the car to pieces. Just search the forum for plug "41019" for a plug location.

The grey wire goes to the temperature gauge (pin 10), the grey/white wire (pin 3) goes to the temperature warning light.

I just dealt with this and it ended out being the nut behind the gauge that clamps down on the circuit board was loose. Tightened that up and all was back to fully functional.

Wow, thanks for the tip. You know that could be the problem. Just before it quit working the needle was literally bouncing all over the place. I’ll check it out. Thanks

Yup mine would do that then be ok for a while or not work for a few drives then just never worked again. Just pulled the cluster and bam, the little brass nut was loose.

Thank you Ian, great information and photos. I too have experienced problems with these connections on the binnacle, Very helpful, I’m sure it will help a lot of us!
