Well I have my first unplanned work on the FF, I need to do a coolant flush and find a potential leak. The wsm lists both glycoshell (g48) or g30 coolant as suitable. Anybody have a preference or a reason to use one or the other?

I was planning to do g30

Look over this thread. G40 Zerex.
    Hope it's an easy repair.

    thanks.

where does the g40 recommendation come from though? doesn't the wsm say g48 (Ie zerex g48: current equivalent of glycoshell) or g30?

The WSM I have doesn't list anything other than the Shell coolant. Same with the owners manual. And no hits in either for G48.

So I blindly followed the recommendation for G40 in the linked thread. And hey, it's pink so it's close. If anyone offers up another spec with references I'll change it sometime when it's back on the lift.

I'm changing mine over the Evans Coolant. I'll report how it goes. I have been using Evans at 0 pressure for years in nearly all my vehicles and it allows water pumps, hoses, and radiators to live many times longer. It doesn't have the corrosive properties or need pressure to operate which extends the life of pretty much everything in the cooling system. I'm curious how my FF will do with it.

I always worry about zero pressure and cavatation

Not trying to argue with you at all, more from my own curiosity. I was planning to use g30 (typically I use zerex since it’s readily available). If you use something not specified in the wsm how do you decide it’s suitable?

A lot of factors go into making decisions on coolant
First and above all I see what Ferrari recommended in the WSM and see if there was any superseded documentation for that
Then I look at manufacturers of coolant lights like zerex or GLYSANTIN and see what they recommend as well as to chemical composition of the coolant of what they're recommended to back to the manufacturer
Things change and things improved so decisions made 10 years ago may not be the right ones today and will not be the right ones in four years from now
I take every model and treat them separately
I'm not sure how I get to each conclusion at the time because my memory doesn't serve me correctly if it's been a while so I can't give an exact answer how I got up to g40 versus g30 they're very similar and g40 is backwards compatible with g30 anyway
You can't go wrong with either one so if you've been using g30 go ahead continue using it

Evans is a waterless coolant. Water is what causes cavitation bubbles and boils which is why you need pressure. If you eliminate the water you don't have those issues anymore.

I've been using Evans for a long time. I don't like their marketing hype, but the stuff works for me. I have also used it in a commercial diesel application.

I plan to write an article on my journey making the switch in my FF and anything that happens due to the change. My goal is that my cooling system components will live a lot longer and require less intervention with Evans. That has been the case with everything else so far that has Evans in it and I hope it does the same in the FF.

Thanks, yeah makes sense. Was curious more than anything; figured it was updated information and newer specs. thanks for taking time to answer back.

Now that I can actually see what was in there, I believe it was g30 installed previously.

Fyi G40 was the next evolution of G30
    ...g12+ to g12++
All the research points to be a better and an upgrade to the G30 without concerns
