    Hi,

First post here - lots of good ones read but could not find a hint at this: while most of the litlle control lights on my '90 348ts light up for function check when first switching on the ignition, the coolant warning light on the bottom left side does not. I checked the bulb and it is fine. Consulting the manual, I could not find anything that describes what behavior to expect.

So I figure - check the wiring diagram. I have 2 PDF versions of the workshop manual and both miss page L26 with the Control & Display control wiring diagram.

A clarification on the coolant light or a hint as to where to get the wiring diagram would help me greatly.

    Thanks,

    Jay

There can't be a coolant warning light because there is no sensor in the expansion tank to let you know you're low on coolant in the first place. That is, if that's what your are looking. There are for sensors for the coolant temperature, and one for the temp gage.

    Hi Ernie,

Thanks for the speedy reply. I guess this picture should help clarify what I am asking about. The it is the function of the indicator light # 4 described as "water temperature warning light" in the attached is what I am wondering about.

I was thinking it should light up briefly when turning on the ignition like the other fault control lights do (brake, CEL left/right, etc.).

    Thanks,

    Jay

    Ah, I see.

You know I don't think I have ever seen that one light up on my car.

Nope doesn't light up. Just went and checked it.
However that doesn't mean my bulb isn't burned out.

Maybe some of the other guys can verify the same, or different, on their cars.

Thanks for checking! Curious if everybody else has the same behavior. And who knows, maybe someone comes up with the circuit diagram ...

It should stay out. Only at too high coolant temperature it lights. You can check functioning by loosen the connector on the sensor and touch ground with the wire: it should light then (with contact on offcourse).

(I only got no idea where the sensor is mounted, but thas somewere in the manual).

If I'm not mistaken it's on the front side of the crossover pipe, under the plenum.

+1 - just checked mine, and it doesn't light up either

PRECISELY!!! I found out this way as mine came loose and lit up the Water Temperature Light.

Here is the thread on it, with it's location and an actual pic of the wire hanging loose:

Correct Ernie - front being closer to the passenger compartment as opposed to the rear of the car...however when plugging it in it actually plugs in towards the rear of the car, or faces the rear of car (as per my experience and response to A Molletti)
