So 1 police officer got demoted and 2 other recieved 2 weeks suspension for stealing soda drinks from a fountain drink dispenser at a Mrs Fields cookie store at Hilltop Mall here in the Bay area.
They were caught on security cameras while on a call searching for an man with a firearm at the mall.
If I owned a Mrs Fields store, I'd be saying help yourselves guys, It's only fountain soda! Hey, have some cookies while you're at it.
Then again, you're only guys searching for some lunatic running around with a gun who had just shot at a security guy....(Shaking head)

And yet the cops who were caught on a news camera looting in N.O. will probably never hear a good tongue lashing for it. IMO officers should follow a separate (more stringent) set of rules from the general public for obvious reasons. And thus punishment should be much more severe. But then again that would require someone to actually put logical thought into the P.D.

Went to the bank this morning, there was a cop car idling in the handicapped parking spot and the cop was inside conducting business.

How pathetic is THAT? If I had my camera I would have snapped a pic and emailed it to the police chief and the local newspaper.

Cops, moreso than anyone else, should ask first before they just help themselves to ANYTHING.

However, If I owned a liquor store or a fast food establishment, I would gladly give them free food and discounts as well!

I'm not advocating theft here but I reckon the whole thing is a storm in a tea cup.
    It's a soda fountain!
I wonder who laid the complaint? The mall or shop owner?

Over here, cops get free Maccas at McDonalds for a very good reason.. Having police visit the restaurants is a free source of security. No need for security guards if your giving away free food to cops.

I'll take a real cop over a rent-a-cop any day.
One of the wildest things I've seen was a few years ago early one morning going into the paddock at a Laguna Seca CART race. A rent-a-cop came storming down the road yelling and screaming with his gun drawn at a driver of a car (I think it was Mo Nunn) who had gone past him. He got to the drivers door pointing his unlocked pistol at the drivers head screaming to see his pit credential. Maybe the guy driving ran the rent-a-cops foot over or something. (hope he did). Step away from the Red Bull!
Didn't see that rent-a-cop rest of the weekend.

Was he there on some type of investigation??? Was the alarm tripped prior to your arrival?? Was there a suspicious person in the bank before you got there?? Just something to think about before passing judgement---my opinion only...

    LOL...

This reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Elaine bought the jujyfruit instead of rushing to the hospital to see her boyfriend who just got hit by a cab.

(That was also the episode where George did the opposite of all his instincts and got a job with the Yankees.)

Don't be too sure about that! The new Police Chief down here is planning to break it off in them (fired/lost pension/jail time) in no uncertain terms!
