I know there is some info in the archives but it is old. Has anybody done this on the 2.7.? I think these cars are really in need of a hotter spark since 1/2 the spark is lost. My car is pretty modified so I think there is a gain in power and reliability. Less chance of plug fouling and cleaner burn.

I have all the stuff just did not get round to it, going to do my 348 first

Your 355 with the mods I think would really benefit especially if you can dial more timing and fuel at lower rpms with a MSD system that I will be using with the COPs

heres my msd on off video. yeah I did tons msd stuff years back

Tim are you using the Denso coils. Are the lengths the same for a f355 as a 348? That's the spark these cars need !

Half the spark isn't lost, it doesn't require much energy to fire it on the exhaust stroke. I don't think there are big gains to be had here.

That being said I would do it if I switched to an aftermarket ECU.

I have a programmable ecu as I think it is worth it. Gets rid of plug wires that are right on top of each other another benefit.

I thought you piggybacks for fueling but no spark control?

If I was switching to COP I would want to be able to program dwell.

Interested to see the results :)

My computers can do fuel and timing and few other things. Still think it is worth it if not too costly.

    Hi Bob,

I have pursued this in the past (i was in that original thread as well) and have all the parts including the MSD, harnesses, connectors, and Denso coils. At the time, there was a slight miss between 2500 and 3000 rpms that I could not get rid of, and have redone the harnesses since then with twisted high temp wires. I just don't have the time right now to continue this project, but the short time it was on my car, there was a significant improvement, specially with the throttle response.

I suspect one of the coils are bad (bought used from eBay), and I was going to replace the coils with aftermarket ones as these are not available anymore. But these coils are of the correct length such that they fit in the head with the spark plug covers installed. The MSD unit was purchased new and was only on the car for not even a month.

Let me know if you are interested. I have put in about $1300 in parts already into the project, just PM me with an offer.

    Alex

After converting to CoP on my Vmax, I plan to do so on the 355 when the engine is out (started). Haven't found the right CoP units yet. Tim, did you find untis that fit?

Which CoP units are you using?

Make a 1/4 inch spacer plate to go under the cover

I plan on doing the spacer. There was a coil that was shorter but understand on longer available.

Yeah I rather space them up more then needed to get some air in there. I will be running them in open air for cooling reasons

I have 1/4" aluminum spacers holding the spark plug cover plate up in order to allow more space between plug wires because I am old school and want to avoid "cross talk", especially at the very tight port that funnel the 4 wires into the cam valley.
At some point I want to go to CoP but right now I am having Throttle Position sensor issues. My TPS is a Bosch -005 but I am told that I can use the -001 sensor but the engine won't fire now with either.
On the subject of Plug wire covers, mine only says Ferrari without the 5 Value script. Can someone tell me what you have and what year it is so I can hone in on the source of my engine. Thanks!

Very strange your spark plug covers do not say Cinquevalvole even the press release photos depict an engine with it on them. My car is a 1995 2.7 and has it as well. Haven't seen an engine without it.

You will not get cross-talk with a COP system since all those wires carry is a switching current, not coil current. V12 owners have converted 456s and 550s.

Did the earlier cars have phillips head screws?

Considering your car is a custom build maybe that was milled off before refinishing? (going for older look)
