I thought they stopped this practice. I go on Amazon to purchase the Foo Fighters "In your Honor" and it says it's protected. I hate this!! I wanted to buy it but now I just want it. If you have the mp3s of this album (or just DOA) let me know. What is with all this? RCA is still making CDs like this.. Boycott!!
I don't own the CD so I've tried nothing. I'm so upset that the labels have incorporated this protection I don't want to buy the cd. I just read an article that a number one album was copy protected so they think this is becomming acceptable. So I don't want to add to the sales. I want them to get the message or all cds will have this junk on them. I specifically purchase cds to get away from the protection bs of the download sites. I like to be able to store the cds and rip them to my computer folder. Then I can place them on my Ipod with Xplay. It works great..... Would Exact Audio Copy just copy the music files or the whole disk?
If you dont want to buy it and prefer to pirate it, theres tons of places to do that, such as Bearshare, Limewire, BitTorrent. Do a google search on those programs and you could have it in 20 minutes. It would not be a legal copy, but it doesn't sound like thats an issue, so that's how you get it.
Mike I think you might be right. I've never had any interest in those sites until now..... I've always purchased my CDs and I buy a few every month. I've heard it's a great way to get viruses using those sites.
About 20-30% of the files have viruses, however, you cannot get a virus from an MP3 or WAV file. You can get them from scripts and executables. I would scan any file you download prior to running it, however if it is an MP3/WAV you cannot get a virus from it. Viruses must be run to infect you. An MP3 is just a data file, and it gets loaded into a program like media player then played. The MP3 file can't give commands to Media Player, so therefore there's no way to get infected from an MP3. I agree with much of what you say re: the music biz. I dont really download much music these days but I sure do download stuff I bought before on tape but I want to load onto my MP3 player in a more convenient format.
I think that its stupid that they are mass producing them. I remember the days when bands would leave one side blank on a tape so someone could willfully tape other songs onto the tape. Music companies didnt care about that though.... If you were to download it, i recommend Limewire or Bearshare, and then move it out of your shared folder. For you i would just wait it out. E
That's what I want to do...... I hope there is enough pressure that they have to release it w/o the protection. Then I'll buy it..... In the mean time, anyone have DOA?
I sure don't remember that, can you name me a few bands/tapes that did that ? (leave a tape blank on one side on purpose)
The downside with iTunes is the format they are using (if you are an iPod user, this problem is a bit smaller).
It depends what copy protection they are using but you can usually get around that quite easily. The first thing is to make sure autorun on your drive is turned off.
All (most?) of the DL sites have their own form of protection regarding how many times it can be copied etc. It's a real PITA if you switch computers a lot.
Aaron, you're correct, you can get around it. But, I don't want to support the use of this. So I don't want it to be another "scan" and I want the public and the band to put pressure on the labels. So, no purchase until they take it off. Then I'll buy it. I think they promote not purchasing with their distrust of their supporters.
