Completely agree Greg.

I generally have a 'slight' sense of skepticism when it comes to anything Indian given my personal work and social interactions (the number of Indians that have exaggaerated resumes and skill sets in Australia has astounded me).

Despite the above reservations I have, my two Indian team members have been honest, reliable,intelligent and well balanced people (like I said, they got vaccinated, seem well educated and in fact, they have gone a LONG way towards restoring my faith in Indians) and they have told me (when I asked) that 'on the ground', life has returned to 'normal' in their part of India although they still fear another wave, which so far has not eventuated.

 

I guess my point is that you read something in the media about events/situations in another country and when you talk to the locals, you get a different picture. Nothing revelatory with that statement.

Also, my colleagues in India haven't claimed they are out of woods yet but they do have a cautious optimism that life is returning back to normal in India (or at least in their part of India), hence why I find them credible. So I have some skeptism but remain open to possibilities until they become conclusively incorrect.

As I said earlier, time will eventually reveal the truth of the matter.

Apologies if I seem argumentative. I'm just trying to articulate my thought process.

 

Well, I always struggled to believe the figures coming out of India, but let's say they're consistently wrong, then somehow they've still got the numbers of infections down to 10% of what they were (going from memory), so I'd love to know how.

Why? Their cases all rose and then fell precipitously, despite taking no significant action. What makes you think the cycles are not natural, and occur regardless of what governments do or don't do?

Your government is doing everything it possibly can and the cases are still going up at the same rate as before, long past the date by which the measures should have proven effective. Guess what...

Your cases will eventually naturally come back down and, when they do, you'll all probably stomp around and declare victory as though you had something to do with it. Then, after a while, they'll go back up again. 2 or 3 cycles into this process, as we have seen, you might start figure it out like most of the rest of us have.

Then again, it's easy for people to get "pot committed" and that makes it impossible for them to let go of their previously cherished beliefs.

Hey, take 5 mins and go look at data from the Spanish flu. Spoiler alert: It won't bolster your case.

Global data says one thing. You say something else. Credibility = Zero. But, people can learn and being incorrect about something complex doesn't have to be a permanent state.
