This looks like the one that Classic Parts have new with the carb tool added - about USD 400 from them

IMHO the tools in the 308 kit are so crappy and the vinyl bag to cheap
(plasticizer gone due to heat and age), the only real reason to own is
    concours or bragging rights.

But with the numbers of cars built reduced to what? half? there certainly
should be a surplus of tool kits. Hard to believe they often get $500
at auction. Plus the need to leave it home when the cars is left for service.

I fell into that trap and bought a set a few years back of E-Bay. Its just a copy. Mine didn't have the spark plug socket. It was around US$600 at the time but did include all the extras like fuses, bulbs, but the guys who know the cars picked all the faults.

Superformance have a similar one. I would say arong US$300. Better to search through normal Ferari suppliers, either OEM or after market IMO.

I have the large tool kit with the jack and bulb/fuse kit, As useless as they are, I was just thinking about getting a correct small tool kit for the car.

That looks correct to me Doug, it may well be a repro but the screwdrivers are the right color, it has a carb tool (which is N/A to your later injected engine.....and the wrenches in the real ones are sometimes from Italy, sometimes from India...LOL!

As noted for sure not quality items, for my money I'd get the universal kit Ferrari Factory now offers in Schedoni leather box for 1500 Euro....I'm just sayin'.......for FCA judging that one should be fine...

I agree they are too valuable to carry in the car almost, but I use mine!!

I agree, a small box full of Craftsman will do most of what you need on the road and when bought on sale you could afford to loose them. I havent had outside help work on the car and not too concurned about theft. Although I keep the owners manual Brian found me at home in a file cabinet, mostly because I don't want it weathered.

How did they get wet in the trunk? You need some help with a new set of weather stripping?

Haven't you heard a Ferrari can shrink in the rain, and you being a Texan, I wouldn't chance it!

I guess this is a good reason to seriously make sure these things are included on a potential purchase. And to keep them at home when the car is being serviced. Sure, some 308s have been destroyed, but when they burn, sometimes the tools burn too! My somewhat biased opinion is that there are tools/books on the market have been separated from a functioning car. Whenever I see these things on e-bay, my first impression is "someone is missing their tools..."

I ran across a guy at a Auto Swap once that inisted he had an inventroy of just that, a used car lot routinely removed the books and tools from every car they touched...boggles the mind what he might have had, he never let me inventory it for Fcars..

It was right after I bought my first 308GTB, had it parked by a big walker crane on site, both were yellow....didn't know the trunk leaked, didn't know about the little drain tube fitting that should be in the low area of our trunks...didn't know it was going to rain 8" that afternoon!

I dried out most of it, but you can of course tell they were submerged....LOL!

I guess I'll wait on a wreck or spend the $5K FerrariLiterature wants for the set.....my other two cars have them...

I for one would be very surprised if there are 25% of the early 308's left, much less half. They just got so beaten down and abused, treated as throw away junk all through the 80's and early 90's, and then prices tanked and really started doing them in. Butch, Ted, Dennis and others were cutting them up two a week and more for over a decade. The first 308 I was offered was a local 81 euro GTB that was destined for T.R.. The nose needed some sheet metal repair and the motor needed an overhaul. I could have had it for $7K with both the stock as well as Gotti 16's, and I passed. The point is, there are at least two sets of tools and books for every 308 out there, and possibly twice that many. If ya'll would stop bidding them up, maybe we could all have a chance to find the ones that go with our cars. Until then people are going to hoard them.

i am shocked at how much these tool kits are worth. i have the jack kit and tool kit in my 79' and really never use it. it just hangs in the car in the boot.

and i would agree that these tools might be easier to buy in the long run then the cars. it seems the cars are diminished in numbers and more and more people are hanging onto their 308's for the long haul.

You would be surprised on how many people ask if a "tool kit" is included when you buy a 308. They seem pretty hard to come by but does not really appear to be a necessity or "deal breaker" if the Ferrari they are buying does not have one. IMHO it would be nice to have one with the car, but I wouldn't pay an arm and leg for it.

My tool kit went missing when the car was sold via a well known west coast dealer. There is a string of letters between the previous owner, new owner and the dealer over compensation. To be honest it doesn't bother me that much as I don't see the big deal on price unless you are in a concours.

That's interesting the carb tool is still in there that late! LOL!

As JT states if they WERE there then went missing I'd be pissed! It can run into big money unless you get lucky....

All mine came with tools but one was missing original books, he had sourced the Owner's Maunaul only after much effort....

The one tool I was missing when I bought my car 21 years ago was the "emergency window crank tool." I don't know if it officially is part of either the "tool kit" or "jack kit" but I had my car judged at the Concorso Italiano four years ago and lost 1/2 point for it being missing. I acquired one and carry it in the door pocket but don't know where it's officially supposed to go.
