I am trying to replace my tattered Glasurit paint label on my 87 328 GTS. The label that is on the car has the shinny foil surround with the Glasurit logo in a circle with the paint code in a white box, as shown. I recently purchased a new label that is printed on matte silver with the Glasurit label in a box and the paint code in a yellow box as shown. They are not the same.

The seller of the new matte label told me he was a concours judge and that the shinny foil label is incorrect, that all 328s have a matte silver label. That would be fine except after 16 months of looking at 328's before purchasing, I have never seen a matte foil label on a car. I was getting the feeling this was the only version he had and was telling me this so I would not return it.

I want the car to be original, don't want to be dinged for a point deduction for using the wrong label if and when I show the car, and for what these things cost, it better be the correct label.

So I am asking the concours brain trust of F-Chat to please settle this. Is the shinny foil label the correct, original label the car should have? If so, any leads on where one can be purchased? Or is the matte silver label correct?

    Please advise!

    Michael,

I've been judging regional concours events for the past eight years. I would not deduct for an original label that is slightly damaged such as yours.

Anyone know where to buy a paint label that says Rosso Corsa FER 300 without the 6, 9, etc? Does anyone have a picture of the exact placement? Thanks!

I sent a bunch of emails out trying to locate another label supplier. Only one has come back and he did not have one for the 328. While I leave my original in place, I am going to investigate having one made up just to see what it yeilds. Regarging the placement, for a 328 I have only seem them located on the underside of the engine cover deck lid on the right side back long the trailing edge. PM me if you need a photo of the location.

That's interesting.... Mine is a December 1988 built car and it's code is 300/9......

Was the mix changed with the 88.5 update?

Also, your decal appears to be more "matte" than "glossy"

I am in the process of trying to find the correct material to print some of these decals.
I need/want a correct expansion tank decal and it appears the OP (Designstar) has a paint color decal that is similar to the material used for the expansion tank decal --> http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=350544

Eventually, I would like to have all the correct decals that originally came on my car for no other reason then satisfying my OCD tendencies.

    Keep you posted...
Or, send me a message reminding me...

Yes it looks like you do have the matte decal so there are two decals in play on the 328. The key will be to find when the change was made. I have to check the build date on my car but its an 87 and yours is a late 88 biuld so somewhere between the two dates the decal was changed. The plot thickens......

The horse is also different. The original has more highlights to it around what would be the shoulder. Well after looking again, all over, rear legs, etc.

Yes, that is the type I need for my 80 gtsi. 300 paint color with no alternate. Anyone have a picture of exact placement for my year? Thanks!

This is the (origional)paint label from my 1981 308GTSi which I ordered in June of 1980. It was a special order color, but I think the labels were all the same for that year. Its located on the rear right corner of my engine cover.

This is my label. On the right, the original glossy foil label. On the left, the new Eurospares glossy foil label (€ 6,-). The font of the labels is a little bit different. The quality of the Eurospares label is fine in my opinion.

Is the foil on the expansion tank decal the same "gloss" as the paint decal?

Anyone have both OEM decals in tact enough to determine this?

I'm looking to get a new label as mine is completely missing and found that at italiancarparts.com they have labels and state that matte or shiny depends on the year. Their part numbers are divided by '80-'83 and '84-'94 but they don't say which is matte and which is shiny.

I also see that there is Rosso Corso 300/6 and /9. Anyone know what the difference is? For anyone with an '84 in Rosso Corso that has it's label, what does it say?

Where exactly does the label go? I have my original label, but it was tucked into the owners manual when I bought the car.

I ordered one for an 87 and they sent me the matte which was incorrect and did not match my original on my car despite ICP insisting it was correct.

The label is located on the passenger side of the underside of the engine lid along the rear trailing edge surface. I'll see if I can take a shot and post it.

    Chris,

I have been trying to figure that out...what I believe is the following.
But I am by no means positive on this, so should anybody have better knowledge, please chime in and correct me, I would be delighted.

Rosso Corsa 300/6 and 300/9 are slightly different shades of the same color.
The change seems to have occured sometime during the early production of the 328.
It seems almost certain that the shade of Rosso Corsa used for all 328 produced after the suspension change (= convex wheels, first car is 76626) is Rosso Corsa 300/9.

I believe...I am not certain, but until I have proof to the contrary, this is my belief...that no 308 have been painted by the factory in Rosso Corsa 300/9. All late 308 are in 300/6, and so are the first 328.
The change between 300/6 and 300/9 seem to have occured in late 1986, or early 1987?

The color for your car is most probably 300/6; how should the paint label look, this I leave to paint label experts...

    Best,

    Post-scriptum:

The slight difference between 300/6 and 300/9 is that the later color is a bit more orange in shade; and I believe that the successor to 300/9, which is 300/12, was in turn again a bit more orange than 300/9.
I think that the denomination "300/6" appeared sometime during 1984; before that, it was only called "Rosso Corsa 300", without any other number.
