I recently finished the major on my Testarossa. I had the runners wrinkle coated in red and I have repainted everything gray that should be gray but I think the color is slightly off. It is a little too silver. What paint and color is the correct color for an 86?

I would like to know this too. It's a flat silver with a wrinkle finish. But I have no source for this paint.

Its a flat silver/grey. Very hard to get correct without an original intake to compare it with side by side. 20 + years of heat and cleaning will have taken its tole on the true color in most TR's.

They were more silver than gray when new and change over time.

Tom, to the best of my knowledge there is no paint allowed in North America that matches it.
You need to do the wrinkle in another color and paint silver over it. Many of the silvers are a little too "Tijuana Chrome" for the right look. Krylon Dull Aluminum is pretty close.

How does the Kryon hold up to the heat? Since it is on top of the engine I would think it would get pretty hot.

Nowhere near hot enough to be a problem.

Lots of the painted Ferrari blocks and heads routinely get painted with conventional spray paint.

I am testing some colours for the correct colour match presently. There are two aspects to consider, the colour and shiny/silk/matt finish. I have them all but its plain flat colour at the moment, nothing wrinkly.

Please let us know what you find. I have already had them wrinkle coated in red. I just need the gray top coat.

When I was trying to do it, getting it in Italy and England did not pose a problem. Our border and laws are a big problem however.

Oh, and then there was the price. The right stuff was very expensive.

That's unfortunate...I think your solution is the best for the US then. I have used the Dull Aluminum on other applications and it puts down a nice finish.

They wanted me to set up a US distributorship. There was no way around the import problems.

Yes I can export but my problem is now the shippers. The pressurised paint tin is seen as a no-no so I am struggling. If I overcome the problem then I can sell both the correct red and silver (grey) paint all over the world.
