My 1982 308GTSi was repainted just prior to my purchasing the car. The car was painted its original color Black. At a recent car show, a former employee of a local Ferrari dealer told me that the car was incorrectly painted. It is painted an overall glossy black but he said that several areas should have been painted matt black. Can anyone tell me which areas should be repainted in this matt finish?
The flat areas are the bottom rocker panels (where the rough paint is) and the louvers atop the front fenders. The bumpers are a flat black too. Maybe the louvers were painted black in the QV's only..i dunno. The experts will chime in soon.....
That's not right. The part below the door has chip guard beneath the paint but the paint is not matte on an '82 GTSi. The parts that should be matte are the windshield posts and adjacent areas under the hood at the bottom of the windshield etc. as well as the areas just behind where the hard top is as well as adjacent areas under the louvers where the gas filler is. The mid-body stripe is matte as well...
Do you mean the lip the targa sits one? Also, the areas around the quarter windows are black, not body color? I thought only the louvers themselves were black. BTW: great color combo, has to be the best one for a 308!
Perhaps the previous owner wanted the paint to be all gloss. That is no big deal. While there may indeed be a factory style paint application - there are many choices one can make with their car when refinishing it. This was a minor personal choice that should not detract from the car overall - and a choice that can be changed easily enough if another owner wishes it to be. For this past dealer rep to use the word "incorrectly" about this paint choice is really rather harsh for such a minor detail.
No, it is incorrect, plain and simple. Yes, one can take it poorly, but if one is striving for a original looking representation, then most would welcome the information. It is only harsh if given in the wrong manner or with malice.
I agree. FCA judges would also knock a point off if the car were ever in a concours. Given that the OP asked the question, it's fair to assume he cares about originality.
Underneath the louvers is black. The part around the hard top is all matte black. There is a indentation on the body that indicates this area... Thanks! I like my color combo too!
