Great post. We'll expect more stories about your '63 SWC later...

No offense intended, but I'll give you a comparison to work with, which informed some of my very rough multiples.

I'm currently restoring a 1985 Corvette, for which I paid the grand total of $8,250. I have spent perhaps $5,000 on the restoration and the car has won four separate Top Flight awards in NCRS judging. It's not perfect, but it's a solid 97%/98% car.

When reading FerrariChat (which I found spectacularly interesting, by the way - my post count has been way down on the Corvette Forum for the past week), I looked at prices for Testarossas (remember, I'm a child of the 80s :) ). The closest comparison on the Corvette side would be an early ZR-1. I could get into a nice one for 25k to 30k. I don't think that would buy me much in a Testarossa...

I agree to a certain extent. However, a lot of non-owners have a lot of respect for all great cars. I fit that description quite well. I'm a student and drive an older MB (W202), but I never bash another car or manufacturer and always respectfully state my opinion. I've read my fair share of really stupid and disrespectful comments comments from non-owners, so I know where you're coming from, but we're not all like that.

Also, I know a few owners who seem insecure and constantly bash another car to rationalize their own decision. This is especially irritating for me since they are actually giving a bad reputation to the car that they are trying to support and worse, giving a bad reputation to its owners. That said, they represent a very small percentage. Most owners of high end and high performance sports cars have a great deal of respect for each other.

There are 5471 of them on line right now. Run for your life. We are outnumbered.
If I had a z06 with 505 hp or maybe more, I'd be talking about it too. Those guys are proud of their American Iron and they got a good car there. I'm not sure which is faster and I don't care. I love my 430 and it is a rush to own and drive.

Ah, but watch that forum software (same as Ferrari Chat, by the way) desperately trying to handle the load...

...BTW your 430 is a beautiful and wonderful car!

Why can't we all just get along and be TRUE car enthusiasts who respect cars for what they are and not what they can obliterate?

I think we all summed it up nice. We all like to drive what we drive.

Im with Kenny--I would love more runs with Vette and Viper guys/gals invited in NY/NJ. The way I see it, more cars = more fun. And never forget, there is safety and power in numbers. Learned that a long time ago during my sport bike days.

Big Red, this is the second time you've started a thread here referencing the CF, while simultaneously picking a fight over there. Are you just trying to wind up the two forums? What's the point?

Thanks. There's not much to tell regarding the '63 Vette; I was 16 and paid $2,450.00 for it, kept it a short while and sold it for the same amount. It was too much to handle for a 16 year old kid in 1965...$2450 was some bucks in those days and add gas, insurance, etc., and I was in over my head. It was a cool car, though...silver/black, 340 HP. I didn't have any trouble selling it, either...buyer showed up the evening of the day I put the ad in the paper.

The '69 roadster was a stepping stone...it was a solid car needing some work, mainly cosmetics, and I had an opportunity to get it cheap. I fixed it up, kept it a couple of years and had fun, and sold it for a good profit. Post-1967 Corvette styling never appealed to me and I wasn't emotionally attached.

I'm still very fond of mid-year era Vettes and would love to have a '65 or '66 small-block roadster with side exhaust, alloys, etc.

Picking a fight over there ? When did conversation of cars become picking a fight ? Has this thread turned into a fight ? We live in a global society with choices and freedom of speech people can chose to respond or not respond. Think of it as the news, just reporting whats happening.

Us vette owners have to deal with the same thing from mustang guys. It's always the "lesser" car forums hatin on the forums and owners of "better" cars. There are jerks in every camp. Most of us are good people who can appreciate general automotive prowess, regardless of make.

Perhaps we post on 2 different F-Chats. Let's just skim Alan's Z06 thread and Clax specifically who seems intent to derail any positive talk about the ZO6. Almost every other new z06 thread that comes up has people attacking the z06.

I've been on Fchat for a little while now and there are 3 cars I notice that seems to be the bane of Fchat.

Porsche: We can probably count the number of threads on one hand that do NOT mention 'boring' or 'everyone has one'.

    New Z06: "It's still a vette" surfaces a lot.

Mclaren F1: I need not go down that road right now. ;)

So we have 2 cars where the haters scream history, more excitement, better, etc. Then the F1 where, well they just won't accept the truth when the previously tried arguments won't hold. :D Now I take cover.

Maybe if Alan hadn't stated that a mildly modded Z06 was capable of 9's in the 1/4 mile, destroys Murci's as standard etc and other such exaggerated claims, it may have gone differently ;)

Gotta say, my Ferrari is an exciting car to drive and the NW Ferrari Club members are a wonderful, caring, giving group of folks. Couldn't ask for better people. Some of the charity events we've done have made a big difference in lives, especially at the Veteran's Home.
Having said that, I also have a 2006 Corvette with paddle shifters, which is exciting too. The local Corvette club members are just as wonderful folks as the Ferrari club members, down to earth and very interested in all things automotive. They love my Ferrari, too.
So my point is that there isn't a conflict between the marques unless someone wants to argue. Yes, my 400 HP Vette gets 30 mpg on the highway. The Ferrari is a FERRAI, though. My 328 is the most beautiful car on the road anywhere I go, and is bulletproof, never has difficulty.
One of the nicest things is that if one owns a Ferrari or Vette, he doesn't have to be a "wannabe" about anything!

That's one of the best points made in this discussion...both are king of their niches in the automotive world.

When I was in my teens in the 1960's, Corvette ownership was one of life's ultimate dreams and aspirations.

At the time I started posting on that forum (corvetteforum.com) I owned 3 Corvettes and had superior "insider" knowledge into GM than most on that board, yet when I told everyone almost a year in advance that the new C6 Z06 would have a 7-litre 427 under the hood and an aluminum frame they just laughed at me and called my statement a "pipedream." You'd have thought they would have welcomed the information, but a few members thought they knew everything and pretty much bashed everything that came out of my mouth, even though 2 months later it was all true.

The majority of the members there are fantastic, just as they are here, though Ferrarichat seems to have less know-it-alls than the Corvette board. Needless to say, I own a vintage Corvette and a newer (late 80's) Corvette, and I still don't feel welcome there, which may or may not tell you something. The only times I post there are to sell parts or buy parts these days.

Sorry to hear that! For the most part, CF has always been good to me... It's certainly understandable how others might not have had a positive experience, though. I see a "mob mentality" brewing often in certain heated discussions there... I just try to keep myself out of it and remind myself that it's just a messageboard and isn't worth getting my blood pressure up over.

I grew up in the '60s, graduated in '68. My ultimate ride was either a Corvette or, on particularly dreamy days, an XKE. I drove a Datsun 510 because the chances of me driving either of these amazing machines was precisely zero. Ferraris were unobtanium - they were considered eye candy and cars only movie stars could own. Fast (and I mean fast) forward nearly 40 years and today I drive a '68 E-Type and a '66 Austin Healey 3000 (my college object of desire). I hang out mostly on the British classic car forums. The comraderie and passion for cars there is beyond belief. I'll tell you what - if I was stuck on the side of the road (it is British after all), there's no way a Jag owner would ever pass me by. I'm sure the same can be said of Ferrari guys, Porsche owners and, yes, even Vette dudes. We're all one fraternity - we love cars, we love speed, we love living the dream. The petty jealousies and sarcasm that inevitably invades our little cyber space is just that, petty. What matters is that we love the cars and want to share that enthusiasm with others. This forum is a marvelous way to do that. I'm a lurker but I've thoroughly enjoyed my visits to the forum and I've learned an enormous amount about cars that have always been rather mysterious to me.

By the way, thanks to all of your enthusiasm, I'm not far from owning my first F car - of course I doubt that it will be "modern", but hey, that just me :>) Cheers!
    Randy
