Excellent decision !!! As far as Price, the Z06 will list @ $65-68K. It will NOT cost $30k over a C6. With the Engine,Tranny,Carbon Fibre,Dry Sump & other improvements it is worth the extra $$$. Viper owners BEWARE !
Humph. To each his own, but I'd get tired of bumping my knees and thighs on those huge fender flares! Those things are reason enough to go with the regular C6!
If you can easily afford the z06...get that. Otherwise the regular c6 with z51 suspension is a fantastic car...it's no slouch.
If you are going to track often, Z06. If you're just using the car as daily drive, C06. You can never recover the cost of all upgrades when you sell later.
The Z06 will perform better than anything in the 80k range. From what I've seen, it may even give the F430 a little tussel. I'd buy the C6, and then get the Z06 when it comes out. Art
Patrick-- sick car but, as Brad said, for 70-80k you're flirting with semi-exotic car money-- you could easily pick up a 993TT Porsche, Ferrari 355B, Dodge Viper (SRT10), Lotus Esprit, etc.. If you're not tracking the car, the performance difference you'd feel is marginal at best on the street... Just something to think about.
993TT, Vantage, 355B... buying a brand new Vette is like taking 15k, stacking it in a pile, and burning it. Wait a year for someone unloads a Z06 for 10-15k less than sticker or buy something thats as sharp a ride and won't depreciate as rapidly. You can still have fun in these other cars at 8/10ths and the Vette will become a distant memory. F'ing awesome Vette, but its your money. Sunny
Ugh... I seriously don't know what to buy!!! I don't like regular C6 with Z51, because the handling SUCKS. I don't like C6 Z06, because I don't think it's really worth extra $15k. Should I look at something completely different? like Lotus Elise???
Patrick, For what it's worth, I think the Z06 is worth the extra and will depreciate accordingly. Be patient and wait for one with 3k miles or just go for it...............just don't skimp for a few K. You will regret not getting the options you want and make it more marketable. - -- Let us know
Well said. I concur. Im not really Pcar fan but I would suggest a Porsche over a vette anyday. Track or no track. MM
i have driven a regular c6 several times, with the z51...i was very unimpressed/..not fun to drive and i thought the steering was sloppy with little feel and the stick shift was truck like and exhaust note sounds horrible...i wonder how many people here have actually driven some of the cars they give their opinions about....i would wait and see if the z06 addresses these issues...if it does, it will be a fast fun car....and a bargin for the money...0-60 3.7sec!!! for 65k, with great handling and high tech features....
Get a friggin clue. I think you have the Vette confused with the Jag Xj6, bud. FYI, my C6 Z51 is coming in end of this week. I just sold my 01 Z51 oupe - it's 5 years old with 36K miles on it for....drum roll please.... $16K less than I paid for it. AFTER FIVE YEARS. Over 63% of the original purchase price. Only a handful of ultra rare cars are investments. Among the 99% that actually depreciate, the Vette holds its value better than almost all of them. In fact, it's been on a number of "Highest Resale Value" lists.
good point, vettes generally have very good resale values and your 01 z06 has held upl very well...i would actually get a used z06 over the newc6..its faster, more fun to drive and has a better engine sound, and its cheaper..........
Definitely the right choice!! I'm lusting after the Z06 myself. It's gonna have a 3 spoke steering wheel I think, and really nice wheels, not to mention 500 hp!!!!!!! That thing is a beast.
1. Porsche Cayman S (unfortunate name, in my opinion) 2. Porsche 987 Boxster S (if you want an open-top) Lightweight and MR configuration, these two will outhandle a 'Vette, even the Z06, on slalom and skidpad, especially since the Z06 is artificially crippled by those Goodyear runflat tires. Neither of the above will give you low-end American torque, though. You probably wouldn't want to take either to the drag-strip, or challenge a Mitsubishi Evo VIII at the stop-light. 3. Porsche 996 GT3 Only 380 HP but eminently tossable. Does the 'Ring in the 7:50s! The one I tried, however, had a really vague, rubbery gearshift, the torque is still lacking, and I thought that my 'Vette's interior was quite awful at $40K; the Porsche's interior is unacceptable at $90K. Easy clutch, though. 4. BMW M3 Competition Package Only available in 2005 before we get the Bangle-ized 3 in '06. Great handling, especially for its weight. SMG II is an interesting novelty but not as well done as Audi DSG. The standard, however, has a brutal clutch. Again, down on torque. Personally, I ultimately passed on the M3 because of BMW's requirement to use their "special" 5W60 oil that's only available at BMW dealers for like $17/quart. 5. Lotus Elise Sat in one, didn't drive. You need to be a contortionist or shorter-than-average height to get in and out gracefully. The seat is basically metal covered by dead cow. Very form-fitting, very uncomfortable. A focused track-day machine, but I question its utility as a daily. 6. All the other choices just keep creeping higher and higher into the budget. A tricked-out 997 911S is probably at least $85K, and Porsche's decision to continue to use the 996 wet-sumped motor (and associated RMS issues) is bothersome. Dodge Viper is rare, turns heads (not as much as the Gen II, though), and has crazy power, but the gearbox is out of a truck, and I'm not sure I feel that comfortable being in a car like this without at least traction control. New Aston Martin V8 Vantage is supposedly able to run 'Ring in under 8:00 minutes and is styled like a Tiffany's diamond, but it's sold out for three years and the AM dealer network in the USA is the suck. 360 Challenge Stradale, this is F-chat, 'nuff said, but good luck finding even a moderately used one for even sticker. Can we talk about kit cars, too? Noble M400 or upcoming M14, I would sell my kidneys for a chance to have one for a week. Ford GT, I must respect it for its performance abilities, but since I didn't grow up during the era, the styling neither offends nor pleases me, and you still can't find one for sticker, and are you sure you want to take it to the Ford dealer for service? Porsche Carrera GT, power, MR, targa, but I'm thinking the resale on this will be not as good as say, an Enzo, and for a $440K car, depreciation of 20% after two years is $88K, holy mother of G-d. Oops, my boss is walking around the cubicle area, back to the slave mines...
A good friend of mine bought a year old yellow Z06 with less than 10k miles for $41k IIRC. He kept it a year and then sold it after being in an accident in another car that he wouldn't have survived if in the Corvette. Congrats on your sale, but its you who need to get a friggin clue if you pay retail for anything. By the way, the owner is a member on here too. Have a nice day Sunny
BTW, the Z51 is a tweaked out suspension package applicable to the base C5. You're one hell of a salesperson!
