Yesterday, Corvette unveiled their C7.R at Laguna Seca. I have zero doubt that this will be shown at the Detroit auto show in January. If it is anything like what they have done before with the C6.R, the C7.R will be accompanied by the C7 Z06! All the rumblings I have heard indicate that this is going to be a serious driver's car.

Here are some pics of the ‘teased’ C7.R. It looks like the bonnet is different (raised), and the lower aero package in the rear looks odd... but it probably sticks to the road like glue. Curiously, it looks like the rear vents by the c-pillar have been deleted?

Edit: I got these photos from Autoblog. For more of them and a write up, you can check it out here: Corvette C7.R makes a camo'd debut run at Laguna Seca - Autoblog

For posting this. i am surprised they would show a Z06 before even the base C7 shows up at dealerships. My C7 was supposed to be Sept last I heard was october.

I am interested to see what hp the Z06 and even the ZR1. I expected two years or more before each higher hp model comes out.

I owned a ZR1 for awhile and it is a fast car, great handling also.

Yeah I know what you mean about it being so soon. Who knows, they may just unveil the race car, but that is highly unlikely. Keep in mind that the C6 is nearly 10 years old. They need a new car with some fresh tech.

The last generation of Z06 was sold a year after the launch of the base model. 05/06

So im guessing the next Z will be a model year 2015.

You could very well be right William. It makes sense.
But come on, it is at least more fun to believe a hot version of this car is going to be at the Detroit show in January.

I still think it will. :D

Figured I should upload this as I couldn't be bothered to do it on my phone.

One thing I will say is that they did a good job of making it so you can't see the brakes. Carbon Ceramic? Most likely.

Contrary to what everyone seems to be writing, I don't think that there will be just one Corvette special model. I expect at least two, like before.

That C7R looks very Japanese. Looks pretty cool, but I highly doubt the Z06 will get a wide-body or look nearly as aggressive.

I would rely on it getting similar treatment as the old one- lighter weight, more power, and revised aero. I expect a wider body/fender flares. I'm also wondering what their yardstick is. The F12? That would be for the ZR1 replacement so that wouldn't translate 100% here. 458 maybe? GT3... That's my guess.

That's a pretty good Photoshop. I hope it isn't anything but natural aspiration. I think we have all heard those rumors regarding alternative boosting, I hope it isn't true.

Logically if this is a track car, why would they go with anything but NA. Turbo, maybe. But not supercharging.

I agree, part of the C6 Z06's appeal was the high redline. Imagine if the engine was an 8000 rpm pushrod 7.0 L. Now that would be truly special.

A turbo or supercharger would of kill some of the appeal.

Yeah lets hope for NA and some revs. I don't know if a pushrod motor can get up that high. That would really be pushing things to the limit! But it would be the eighth wonder of the world.

for a street car, removing flex in the pushrod to avoid floating valves would be difficult. If anything, perhaps some sort of variable timing mechanism to deal with pushrod flex might be easier.

Don't expect a turbocharged Z06... supercharged 6.2 is more likely.

Although, a GM chief engineer once told me that the 7.0 isn't necessarily dead. I hope that is true.

Isaac, I think the LT4 is supercharged for sure, my guess is 585 HP.

I can see how a supercharged motor is easier and cheaper to build then the 7.0 with titanuim con rods etc. the 7.0 was also pretty maxed out.

So yeah a superchjarged motor has the potential to make more power, it also has the potential to weigh quite a bit more and I question the ability of supercharged motors to maintain hp on track on hot day.

It seems the prior z06 ethos was light weight and great NA power. From what we read the new one sounds closer to the ZR1 in spec and concept. Anyway we will find out soon.

With the "old tech" of the LS7, when at LPE, we were getting very streetable 630 HP out of the LS7, so by no means was it "maxed out" at 505 HP. On more extreme builds, we were north of 700 HP.

Rather have that than a supercharged motor.

I think the clues lie in the press.release...
My vote is for a revised NA engine, maybe that 7.0. They had a winning formula before with the C6 Z06 and ZR1 strategies. Why change?
