Chevy should have “kept” the corvette, and made a GT (like ford gt) for its mid engine Italian competitor.

I agree with that. And made the C8 named something else. I believe that they would have increased their market share faster.

They definitely should have kept the Front engine rear drive configuartuion and they could also add a high end Mid Engine model. Corvette should be treated as a brand same as Porsche or Ferrari. Make a FE, ME and SUV. No reason to throw out the baby with the bathwater.

Drive them both, which I have and its clear the comparisons are on paper only. While I applaud the Vette because for the money it’s a lot of car. The 458 is truly an exotic and will hold its value and increase overtime. Pretty much apples and oranges.

I have both—and they are fantastic cars. I find the Z06 more exciting—significantly more comfortable and newer technology. The 458 is wonderful—can’t imagine ever selling it.

If driven on twisty backroads I have a hard time understanding how someone wouldn't enjoy the C8 Z06. Both the motor and chassis are an impressive achievement and the development team has every right to be proud.
Every vehicle design has some level of compromise. For my tastes I wish the Z06 had the weight and size of the 458. I also wish my 458 had the chassis stiffness and throttle/dct mapping of my Z06.
I feel Corvette is now truly in the sports car fight. I wish them every success, and we enthusiasts should feel lucky for the choices we have. A 670HP/8600 rpm NA motor these days should be cherished.
Styling, gaps, interior materials, yes these things matter. But when on the move it's hardly my first concern.

I have interest in the C8 ZR1 for sure. And, not to diverge too much from this thread, but the lap time on the new Mustang GTD is impressive - the only American car in the top 15 lap times at the Nurburgring.

would be nice to also see Ring times based on horsepower. not fair to compare 900hp to a 650hp car.
that way the chassis can be evaluated.

I agree but horsepower sells cars (unfortunately)
