As an old Jaguar mechanic and now with the Fcar it still amazes me on parts costs. I still repair Jags and do engine/trans. conversions so I regularly receive parts brochures from my suppliers . I just was going through a Jag flyer and here are some of the prices for a 1971 XK-E which in comparison to my 1977 308 are way out of whack. I assume maybe the quantity issue is the problem but lets look at the simple things.
-Water pump , brand new $125
    -Distributor cap , new $45
    -Ignition wires (6 cyl) $30
-Clutch slave cyl (1961 XKE) new $40
    -Carb rebuild kit (V-12 4 carbs) $225
    -Bosch starter new $135
I could go on but it still gets to me to see $250 dizzy caps and high priced rotors (how about an ign rotor for $2 fits 1949-1977) but I guess you pay for the name. OK gota go , doin a tune on a 64 e-type . Just blowin off some steam. Enjoy the ride
