Not an an expert on TR's but since the single mirrored cars are more rare, a day is coming when they are going to be worth a bit more than later years IMO... Leave 'em be IMO...
could not agree more. don't touch it. single high mirror is one of the most asked questions about my 86 tr. everyone loves it.
hello, the cost is making a very rare and covited testarossa look like the other 8,000 or so testarossa's made. please sell your single mirrored testarossa and buy a 87' or newer one. single mirrored, non-motorized seat belt, single bolt alloy 85' 86' TRs are in my opinion, thee classic 1980's ferrari. my $0.02 JOE
I agree. The right mirror isn't that useful. I always look over my right shoulder, anyway. he mirror does give you a nice view of your right rare flare, though...
Why mess with a work of art. I love the asymetrical look, especiall this rear view... Anybody have any idea how many 85/86 TRs are around these days? Image Unavailable, Please Login
before I bought my 90 TR, I test drove an early one with the high mirror...the owner of that car had had a matching mirror from a right hand drive model added to the car to make it symetrical...funny thing was you can't see that right hand mirror from the drivers seat without leaning far to your right and down and staring up...even then all you can do is see the mirror and the sky above you reflecting in it, not anything to the rear or along side you. I seem to remember being told the mirror itself cost $1,800. It was worthless : ) PB
Like every one says and like history has shown generally the first of most models always become the most valuble due to simple touches such as the high wing mirror on the Testarossa. Look at the first e-types, the S1 with the outside bonnet locks are worth so much more than the more plentiful subsequent model. My 86 has had the a second high wing mirror fitted to the other sidewhich could be an option, it evens out the looks but is almost completely useless, but definitely forget about the conversion to the low mirrors. If you wait a while, the desire to convert to the dual mirrors will pass. Ferrari made the change in two stages. First was to replace the small "vent" window with aluminium retaining the rubber gasket then they later replaced the aluminium and rubber seal with a casting.....which is not available. I have the little cover that goes on the interior side of the casting that cost $350....I show it to my friends as a joke about outragious prices. A few years ago, Rutlands sold the window frames and mirrors for $2k. Honest, the single mirror will grow on you. And: "Officer, I don't have a mirror on that side so I have to punch it." Also, there something to be said for purity of design that gets compromised with updates. One thing I did upgrade was the center mirror, converting to the glass mount style. It is more rigid now and about 1" higher to make it easier to see out the windshield. YMMV Jeff Pintler 89 348tb (broken), 86TR
Why? I would more likely want to convert a two mirror TR to a single mirror one...the single mirror TRs look much better IMHO...more exotic...
