That's the problem. Look how close the top 6 were at Monza during qualifying...within a tenth from each other. Do you honestly think Lance will compete at that level given his history with possibly(highly stress) the best car on the grid? I doubt it. His team-mate(Alonso??) will.
So far I have never seen Lance Stroll team mates (Vettel or Alonso) being prevented to get ahead of him. What kept them back has been the car, not Laurence Stroll.
So far every single teammate but one has, so I think so. Only Sirotkin wasn't able to do it. Stroll Snr. apparently isn't stupid enough to stack the team against his highly paid ex wdc Stroll Jr. mentors, at least not enough to have them actually get beaten.
True but lets say they land up with the fastest car on the grid, will he really not try and favour his son as seemingly impossible as that might be to actually do?
Lance Stroll will be like Checo Perez.....far from their team-mates in qualifying and race with a top 3 car as proven in 2023 in the first half of the 2023 season.
screw newey. he keeps turning us down and ferrari should not give him the time of day. i hope he fails miserably at aston.
Well, it would be a shame if they don’t improve with a brand new factory, Newey,Cardile,Honda,Aramco and a great businessman called Stroll. Enough to be champions ? Frankly I don’t know.
Yep, Aston Martin should join the top teams. Before it was Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari. Now we also have McLaren, and AM soon perhaps ? It will make F1 more interesting to follow if there is real competition, rather than dominance from one team. But not everybody can be a winner, and I wonder which team will decline. I guess Red Bull will be first.

Considering the last 16 years have been a total flop by the team I would have thought £30m for the best designer in the world was a bargain compared to Hamiltons fee?
The good thing in all this is that we are going to end up with a competitive F1 again where more than 1 or at best 2 have a chance. I wouldn’t like to see the random safety car dominated Indy situation, but more strong teams is good. So I hope McLaren don’t just become the next dominant car. For Newey it makes sense to choose a British team. He is 65, yes he wants to keep at it, but probably also as comfortable as possible, with just one boss and not many, living at home and speaking his own language.F1 by itself is enough stress, no need to stack it up.
Unfortunately for the last 50 years there has and always will be a dominant team in F1, the rules are to blame. Thats why the Technical director of a team is crucial for finding the loophole or next big advantage. Personally I think the teams have hit a wall on the current ground effect rules / design which is allowing teams to catch up.
Newey has not been involved with RedBull F1 since April / Miami time. I doubt he can solve their issues as most are hitting the same competitive wall. Not crashing, managing the tyres and qualifying well are the discriminators now it appears. Also being reliable and maybe that extra driving skill some drivers have helps out as well.
Theoretically you are absolutely right. In fact this is a distorted vision of what a +1000 peoples team need to win on a regular basis. For now I tend to believe Elkann and Vasseur are right to shape the Scuderia following the mclaren’s model. We will see the first outcome of all of this in 2025 ( for Ferrari).
No matter how much the others were offering: with the current "de facto" franchise system that there is in F1, the Aston Martin stock Newey got has made him a very rich man. Also as Aston Martin is in a downward spiral they´re going to let him do whatever he wants, there is nothing to loose. They have money and new facilities, it´s a viable project. Of course there are unknowns: another rule change, Honda engine, and the issue is if Newey has enough years left to see the results.
+1 Was thinking the same. He did not go to Ferrari and frankly wont have much impact at Aston for sometime. The hype around this is entertaining though lol
My guess is that Newey knew that he wouldn't have made a big difference at Ferrari; he would have to fit in the organisation. I suppose money wasn't so important, but he was offered a bigger role at Aston Martin, with more freedom and some decision making. Plus the team is a recent venture new and still building (literally) ; Newey must have been attracted by that aspect. This and the offer of shares in the team (something Newey has been looking for all his career) as a mark of trust must have decided him. Also, there was no need to uproot and move to Italy, which must be taken into consideration.
