The EU has rules for alerting drivers if their car is speeding.

CA is going one step further in proposing actually LIMITING the speed to no more than 10 MPH over the speed limit. Will it pass? I think so. Then someone will say its a good idea for every state because "it saves lives". I might argue that not driving in bad weather also "saves lives" so maybe we should prevent all cars from moving if the temp drops below 30 degrees. Maybe that's next.

Ok, its crazy to have a Bugatti that can go 250MPH when the speed limit is 70. But what's the purpose of the Bugatti when you know it can't go more than 80-- or a Prius?

You spend $500K on a Ferrari 296 GT and the dealer tells you the fastest it can go is 80 and on most streets no more than 45. Are you really going to buy it?

And what about electric exotics. Anyone going to get excited about fake engine noises?

If they adopt speed limit restrictions and go all electric, could the coolness factor disappear and new exotic cars with it?

I suppose generations to come who won’t know any different might just buy on looks alone.
    No interest personally.

Car companies are in big trouble.

We are where cellphone makers were in the early 2000s.

Now we have Apple and Samsung.

Same thing is going to happen. We are going to have 2 companies, Tesla and ______, and we all get driven around in these simple battery powered machines.

    Well
Hopefully they take liability if your running away from domestic abuse or criminals and get beaten up as your speed limit is capped

It never had a purpose beyond being a status symbol, investment, and engineering proof of concept. It's why a 328, air-cooled 911, or other modern classic cars are perfectly fine for public roads. The Veyron/Chiron has always been pointless unless you have access to a track or airfield.

I saw a beautiful orange GT3-RS stuck in traffic earlier this week. No doubt the wing helped.

I have no doubt if and when speed governers are a ting with new cars, tuners will figure out a way to bypass them, just as they've done with emissions.

These **** suckers can do whatever they want. I will never buy a new car. As the other fellow said, if you do buy a new car, someone can figure out how to bypass any electronic bull ****. In the meantime I will continue to break the limit laws at license revoking speeds because I just dont give a **** about " their " stupid laws .

If I have to put duc tape over my motorcycle plates to avoid any of said " speed cameras ", I will absolutely do it. Im for all intensive purposes 60 years old, and I just dont give a **** anymore when it comes to getting pulled over. Ill pay the fines and either take the tape off or go see the judge, and then put the tape right back on.

As a matter of fact, starting tomorrow , Im going to start putting the duc tape across my plates and just see what happens. You guys know I dont give a ****..

I actually doubt that. My feeling is the cars then will be sending data back. Difficult to do. And imagine the penalty for "speeding" if you bi-pass the system. Instead of a traffic ticket, it could be a FELONY.

Now you are no longer just "speediing". You are destroying government required safety systems to "protect the public".

I believe the future for electric lithium( disposable) cars is dismal. Son just got a Tesla ( company car). Inconvenience, Lousy looks, Expensive poor choice for less maintenance or relaxation & enjoyment taking trips, peace of mind charging in your own garage, resale! I WILL Never Buy an Electric Ferrari . Love my 458!

I fear the day that governments simply require Apple and Samsung to report when our GPS laden phones exceed a certain velocity. There'll be a knock on your door, and you and your car are in deep s##t. I think it's probably just a matter of time. Orwell was unbelievably prescient and we are fuct.

Not sure duct tape over the plates is a great idea... but I like that classic cars aren't spewing data when you drive them.

NONE of this will EVER happen… and electric fad will die also…. Maybe hydrogen will happen but electric is going to die. As we’ve already seen in the values of electric. And they can’t govern speed as that would mean every car produced would either have to be forfeited or bought out or mandatory addition of a governor. …. Absurd. None of that will happen.

I don’t know why Porsche put that horrible wing on the GT3 RS versions. It’s embarrassing looking, the standard GT3 is way more attractive.

No way will this limited speed BS go through. I feel if any of the like will happen then hyper/super manufacturers will focus more on track cars instead. The only manufacturers who will see major benefits are Rolls Royce and Maybach. They are slow anyways and comfort will be the go to

A felony would be a crime. In order for a crime to occur there has to be an injured party. A fictitious corporate entity, aka a state, does not qualify as one.

As a guy who plans on doing programming for a living, I can say that the days of doing a binary search to find the very byte that controls say the ignition timing is behind us. While it is true that no system is unhackable, most important stuff is always online. They will know you've tinkered with the car and will push firmware updates the moment they discover these exploits. Ever heard of the F35's daily activation codes? Maybe the US military doesn't use them but they certainly impose that kind of lockdown for exported F35s.

    That's the spirit.

They certainly don't need to knock on your door, the moment you exceed the limit by 1 km/h they will cut off ignition and make you pay not only the fine but also the towing company that just so happens to be owned by some politicans nephew.

I think they'll have to downscale or cash out by licencing their brand names to mass car production for cheaper models etc

Have you seen what they are doing to Trump(love him or hate him) in NY? A court without a jury for a victimless crime. Let’s face it-we all exaggerate our assets, even to potential partners male, female or business.
The political class want us out of cars- period. EVs and speed control etc are all steps towards a society of public transport for all but the well connected
We’re all going to be riding bicycles and eating insects( unless we are vegan of course)
But if AI intervenes we may all be either flying around with our own private jetpacks or extinct
