I now own both ends of the spectrum.

When I drive the Abarth, I get someone, somewhere, in some parking lot or gas station, etc., talking to me about the car.

When I drive the Ferrari, I become invisible.

Is that one of those Japanese 600cc microcars? I always was fond of the Suzuki Cappuccino.

It is an Autozam AZ-1. Which is a Suzuki mfg car for Mazda that sold in Japan under Mazda's Autozam name/dealerships. Complicated enough?

660 CC 3 cylinders Turbo charged and intercooled mid engined gull winged, 1584 lb right hand drive Japanese "Baka Bomb".

Limited to 64 HP in Japan but they have chips in Japan designed to give you 150 HP.

Which doesn't sound like a lot-but at 1600 lbs not so bad. 10.6 lbs/hp. That is 348 territory.

The Ferrari doesn't get nearly as much hostility from other drivers as the EVO.
You want to see hostile? Drive with a wing on the back. :p

Of course, people do get upset if I drive the F-car "out of season".
(Fun cars are only supposed to be out in summer, according to the bureaucrats, I guess.)

Almost as bad as wearing white shoes after Labor Day. ;)

Not to mention that an EVO is the ultimate cop magnet, you get checked out/get stopped going below or above the limit.

Being off the casual radar in a ferrari is a great thing, seriously who needs the attention.

A great car to blast around in is a lotus elise. Its so small and innocuous that no matter what ridiculous driving you may do people just smile. Someone said it "looks like one of those cheeky RC cars scaled up just big enough for people to sort of fit in" I guess the size makes it seem harmless.

Now doing a 60 sec looped burnout in a new challenger seems to bring out all sorts of hostility even thought he car does no more than 5 mph. Some people...

I would prefer to be ignored, tbh. People tend to drive a little crazily, whether they're trying to show off their car or get pictures and I'd rather just drive through unnoticed. I was very particular in wanting a yellow Ferrari, though, and you take the good with the bad. I have yet to encounter any hostility in 2 years of ownership.

The news about Wall Street, in particular, has blown apart the perception that the wealthy earned their money through any kind of work. Whatever admiration wealth used to inspire in the United States, it's a lot less now. I suspect a lot of taxpayers feel like they bailed out the rich class in 2007-8, only to see them pay out appallingly large bonuses to those who created the problem in the first place.

Unfortunately, symbols of wealth like a new Ferrari are guilty by association, even if the wealth was accrued through real work.

Not yet, but we are living in an era where the wealth is heavily skewed to a very small percentage of the population (the part that can afford lobbyists). I'm actually surprised there's not more anger. With capital gains and mortgage deduction giveaways from the government, it's a lot nicer to be an investor than a worker.

What he said. You don't have to get laid off many times before the guy in the red Ferrari is perceived as a *****. Right or wrong, up to you...

Didn't they make 25,000 of the 360 series?
So your 360 and also F430s have seriously diluted the Ferrari brand and the public knows it. Nothing against your 2003 360 Spider, it is a wonderfully capable car just that Ferrari has recently announced they will be reducing production to up exclusivity and prices. Ferrari realize that they have sold out to profits and are now trying to back paddle.

It won't work and the brand will suffer, think Maserati BiTurdo. 20 years later and they're still trying to shed that image

Ummm. No. Just take you car out in 99% of the country that isn't LA, The Hamptons or South Beach/South Florida and you'll see 1) that they actually are rare. and 2) these places have no relevance to your average American. And they made about 18,000 of each model, of which what half or 2/3rds came to the states.

Nobody.. and I mean nobody compares a 360, 430 or any other Ferrari to a biturbo.

The real reason for reducing production could be reduced demand in Asia, not about exclusivity. The "exclusivity" being a spin to reflect positively on the product.

    honestly, who cares?

Unless these people are harming you, your vehicle, or prohibiting you from enjoying your freedoms, why the hell do you care if people resent you or think you're a ******, etc. Concerning one's self with the opinions of people who make judgments of that type based on an automobile is simply a waste of time. There is no benefit.

Enjoy your car for how it drives.

fwiw, even 9,000 cars is not exactly rare. Thats 180 cars per state. Porsche imported 2,400 993 turbos, and I don't consider that rare either.

Actually, it's more like ~25% to the US, so maybe 5000 360's. Not rare, but not common.

Whenever I pull up next to a Prius - especially if it has a bunch of lefty bumper stickers - I sometimes turn the traction control off and do a burnout when the light turns... GREEN! Most of them probably get the dis, and I hope it ruins their day.

    Fight back.

    Cheers,

    George

LMAO that's a good one. They especially hate me 550 hp 67 fastback mustang and the rumpity cam. I like to uncork the headers with the electric cut outs. That really throws them for a loop. LOL
