Where did you get your figures on the 0-100 for the two? The F1 cars do 0-60 in very low 2 second range. Veyron is upper 2 seconds. F1 cars have more acceleration past 60 once they get aero grip going. I don't think the Veyron is faster to 100, but it is certinaly VERY FAST!

And to put it in the hands of someone over 65 is a little frightening, lol! Hopefully they'll just cruise it around and not give it full throttle on on-ramps!

The level of ignorance and snobbery is staggering. Have you seen the hardware that fans of that sport pull into the track? Million dollar motorhomes in the infield. Enough discretionary income that they're following the circuit around. Of course this isn't everyone at a NASCAR race. Much like America the wealth is at the top 2% and with all the corporate sponsorship in NASCAR you can bet your last dollar that some executive in that mess is not only a fan of NASCAR because it brings his company more money, but is also an avid car collector.

As for comparison how come it never occurs to the morons who make these comparisons that professional race teams (regardless of the kind of car) SET THE CARS UP FOR THE TRACK AND CONDITIONS THEY ARE RACING? From WRC to your friendly Porche Owner Club race cars, suspensions are changed, gear ratios...anything the teams or owners can afford to do in order to be more competitive at whatever venue they're about to engage.

If NASCAR is so beneath everyone how come 360 Challenge owners were taking their engines to the NASCAR boys to massage more horsepower out of em before the practice was barred?

Lastly, NASCAR is low tech by design. There isn't anything keeping them from adopting more technology into the cars except the rules laid down by NASCAR.

These kinds of comparisons aren't cute and don't reflect well on the intelligence of the original posters. It's like telling the world you have the comprehension skills of a 4 year old and are proud of it.

I think people underestimate just how specialised a Winston Cup car is (Nextel cup blah blah)

It may look simple to go around a banked oval, but there's an awful lot of real engineering that goes into making those cars go that fast. Wedge, stagger, all that stuff, makes a huge difference, and those guys have spent 40+ years perfecting the art of turning left. Two hundred miles per hour around an oval is not as easy as it looks.

It wasn't until 1972, with wings and 1100 hp, that an Indycar did a 200 mph lap.

The first car ever to lap at over 200 mph was the Dodge Charger Daytona (the more remembered Plymouth version was called the Superbird) at Talladega in 1970, piloted by Buddy Baker. Later that year NASCAR introduced restrictor plates, and no Cup car would exceed 200 mph for another 12 years.

Check out the current road tests in most of the European magazines, they all state the same. I had guests so I put it all my magazines in storage. One stated directly that the Veyron is faster than Michael Schumacher's F1 Ferrari to 100 MPH. Veyron is faster to 100 than an F1 car if fractions of a second mean anything, although F1 car is much better 100-0. One test described the shift from second to third gear in the Veyron as the feeling of Armaggedon. Never heard that before about any kind of automobile.

It totally destroys a McLaren F1 road car. Wait until the 1275 HP version is produced in 2008. Insane.

There are some very smart boys making very fast cars with required stone age technology. Some might say thats a bigger hurdle than using the skies the limit technology with a Pentagon budget.

BTW an Enzo faster or slower than a Cup car? Who cares unless it passes the rules, and I suspect the NASCAR inspectors would have a little trouble with it.

Friend that attended 2005 Daytona 500 with me owns an Enzo, and F50. Not to mention a Gulfstream G5, a Murcie, and is looking for a 275 GTB. He does not like the F40.

I own a measly Boxer, and I have annual tickets to the Daytona 500. Its real racing, you should try it before you knock it.

Think about this for a momment.

These good'ol boys are building PUSHROD engines that spin to 9k RPM. Your 355 with overhead cams and 5 valves per cylinder hits the rev limiter at 8600RPM.

These PUSHROD engines are limited to 355ci (I think) making 900hp without the plates Do the math..hp per cibic inch..thats a record for sure.

They ARE NOT USING FANCY FUEL INJECTION systems either..just a singal holly carb smak dab in the center of the manifold.

They spin 8000rpm for 500 miles (4hrs) in 95 degree heat, never mind the pace laps etc.

Think what you will, but NASCAR tech is very high tech. You would be amazed what can be done and is done.

Daytona and Talladega are the two plate tracks - 2 stops at each during a season. Daytona gets the season opener in mid-February (Daytona 500) and the Pepsi 400 on July 4th weekend every year. I can't remember the dates for Talladega, but one is always during the last 10 races of the year ("Chase for the Cup").

The "true" fastest track on the circuit is Atlanta Motor Speedway - no plates and a 1.5-mile, high-banked quad-oval.

Interesting...I'm waiting to see how the Toyota F1 car does on Top Gear tomorrow night. They do an indoor test on slick concrete for accel and decel. It's not MS's car, but at least another Schumacher's :) I'll let you know the 0-100 km/h if they post that and maybe a 0-160 km/h if they get that high indoors.

I may be corrected here, but wasn't it in the mid 80's at the spring Talladega race, that in practice, Bobby Allison's car flew into the catch fence. That was the start of restrictor plates? I was at Indy that year and was amazed that the Cup cars were lapping as fast as the open wheel guys.

It depends upon the conditions they would compete under. The Enzo is much lighter, so under certain conditions, yes it would have an advantage. That Winston Cup Car, is just sheer brut strength designed to run on ovals.

lololololololol Comparing a racing pushrod engine to a stock Ferrari V-8.

NASCAR has the lowest tech engines in racing. They are only high tech in that they develop the said low tech to a higher state.

You're a moron, that is exactly what he just said. It also means you're Ferrari V8 engine is UNDERACHIEVING. Hence 360 Challenge drivers taking their V8 engines to NASCAR engine builders to get more horsepower out of them.

Come on Kay Noreload aka ShootingBlanks, unless he was being sarcastic, that is what he said. BUT, I read it several times and I could not read sarcasm.

F V-8"s have always been underachievers,

Are you sure 360 Challenged owners take theie cars to NASCAR engine builders? They can only work on pushrod, carb'd, no-ECU's, straight diff'd, etc. cars, right. A 360 Challenged would be out of their league.

Gblogger aka Gay blogger, I know quite a few participants in the Challenge series and was surprised to find out that this was the case. I don't know who was the first to think of it but after a season or two these newly tuned engines were putting out enough power for the practice to be banned.

Why would there be sarcasm in Toms post? He simply stated the facts of what NASCAR engines are doing.

Blanks, he didn't say what I said.

I was being sarcastic when I mentioned NASCAR engine builders working on 360 Challenged.

NASCAR engines are like the Harley engines. Harley engines are based on the second series engines H-D produced, and it has been upgraded for the last hundred years.

In no-holds barred racing, the H-D cannot even compete with a modern I4 or the F6. In the classes where H-D competes with the I4's and F6's, they lower the standards of them so H-D won't be embarassed. Or for you, em bar ass.
