So it's taken me awhile to post these pics. These are of the Hawaii Mars from Coulson Flying tankers: one of only two left in the world with only six originally produced. The Mars was on Lake Shasta in northern California during the month of August. I was able to get some pics on my way down to the Monterey Historics. Very cool airplane, unfortunately, I wasn't able to see it fly but still a once in a lifetime experience. ...And yes those are full-size house boats behind it; the pictures don't show the immense scale of the thing!

Good pix Alex. I live in Klamath Falls, Or and that machine made 2 or 3 rounders from Lake Shasta to a fire north of us near Bend. Those Wright 3350 compounds sounded mighty nice plugging along right over my house at 600 ft or so.

Great photos of a great airplane. It's amazing that 33% of all the Mars built are still in action over 60 years later. Long may they continue to fight fires.

Henry Tenby has a couple of DVDs on the Coulson Mars: http://www.henrytenby.com/dvd.html.
