Terrible speculation on both cars. You can’t judge a car based on an advert - a good car can have a bad advert and a bad car can have a good advert.

The Tom Hartley car was sold by Samuel Laurence in 2017. They say “one owner” in the ad, the in the video Carl Hartley says “one owner for 27 years”. 1990 car plus 27 years makes 2017, when the car was sold by Samuel Laurence. Clearly not one owner then? If they have such and excellent car (which it would appear to be), why have they decided to be so very unclear about its exact history? What is the story?

The 187km car was previously sold by Duttons and DDClassics as one of a pair of delivery mileage Anniversary Countachs - one red (later sold by Hexagon Classics in 2017) and this one that is white. They were supplied new to the Far East in RHD, but like many Far East cars I have found, seemed to be totally unused. They weren’t in the Royal Brunei collection (despite this being claimed). It seems odd that the experts on here can spot inconsistencies in the spec on the car - if you own such a good car, which becomes an investment at a certain point, surely you’d know to keep it original?

Anyone know the purpose of the vent grills on the firewall of the 25th? The top ones appear to maybe cover slots into the engine bay cover? But the bottom ones certainly appear to be non-functional. The second picture shows one of the "grills" removed with only the leather interior behind it.

That’s interesting. I just bought a NOS pair of these this past week for my 85 QV downdraft restoration.

I never realized the Anniversario had lower vents as well. The upper ones are there for air circulation.

This is a significant concern to me.

    Agreed.

No affiliation here but if he said one owner for 27 years (from 1990 to 2017) that's apparently factual, perhaps Hartley purchased it then?

As regards the white car, I have seen a number of delivery-miles cars with paintwork and non-original presentation 30 years later for a number of reasons.

    Non-functional cosmetic application.

    Another.

Using a funnel, surely you don't need this application which now has to be removed to access the distributor, also now you'll have the pleasure of skinning your knuckles when you want to fill oil, unless you put on those gloves.

However I like the fact that the unit is nicely finished in wrinkle black to match the original finish of the air-box.

Oh the things that go through my mind.

While not easy to find, these little vents do pop-up for sale if you know where to look.

Cool, do you happen to know how exactly these vents work? Are they simply open at all times, or are they controlled by the HVAC unit?

    Thanks,

    Derek

Apologies for all the questions, my grandfather, who recently passed away, has a 25th Anniversary that he kept in a back garage. It's in pretty good shape, but needs to cosmetic replacements. My dad and I plan on working on this together, but I am trying to learn absolutely everything I can about the 25th. I'm already fairly familiar, but its questions like these that I would like to get answered. Please let me know if this isn't the correct place to ask these questions, but it seems like there are a number of very knowledgeable experts here on the 25th (and all models).

    Thanks,

    Derek

I’m sorry to hear about your grandfather, though it’s nice to have such an amazing piece of him to honor his memory.

Do you have an owners manual? You should find a simple description in it, if you do. In the previous Countach variants, the vents do nothing more than act as an open outlet for airflow, primarily for smoke. I would be surprised if their function changed for the 25th but it’s worth reading the manual. Here’s the photo from version one of the Countach QV owners manuals (same in the 5000S).

Thanks! Yeah I am still gathering information and documentation on it. We are looking for the owners manual as it wasn't in the storage area between the seats, or the trunk. I am sure he kept it, it's just a matter of where.

Unfortunately, the car is a ways away from us, so we are arranging logistics, transportation, etc. But I should have it here soon.

In the meantime, I have been trying to find a PDF scan of the 25th Owner's Manual, but haven't had any luck.

    Thanks again.

i had an aluminum cover made, similar to this, for my 91 Diablo, not for oil reasons, but rain water would hit the distributor while parked, then the car would missfire until the water evaporated, the cover really worked well ,this could poss be for the same reason.

You'd have to have had your 1991 Diablo out in FL hurricane weather for water to actually wet the distributor! But yes, this was an acknowledged issue with the early cars, solved of course by the factory themselves with a panel on the later Diablos including your 2001 car.

The engine cover on the carburetor version of the 25th Aniversario is not notorious for letting water onto the distributor as evidenced with 99.9% of all the cars often operated in inclement weather in Europe without any issues, I'm thinking this was done to prevent oil spillage, similar to the factory's application for the LP400 (below), which is why the supplementary tray on this carbureted 25th goes up to and around the neck of the oil filler. If water on the distributor were a known problem with 25ths, I'd have encountered this issue after following them closely for 30 years IMO. I do note that on the carbureted 25th, besides the proximity to the distributor, the neck of the oil filler is directly above the connecting pipes for the exhaust, you wouldn't want to stop at gas station after a long run and decide to top up and have oil drip onto hot exhaust pipes, so there's that consideration.

Yes of course it's obviously the support for the AC compressor but as a factory engineer once told me, the topside was fabricated to ensure oil spillage didn't affect the component below, this is where I'm getting that idea from.
