Ive seen them sans air-pump from new but I'm not sure how common that was. As far as I'm concerned less is more.

Funny you mention about the book, you are 2nd person in 2 days to suggest this to me! After the Miura book and then the 288 GTO book, I thought I was done, but, you never say never...

Joe - Amazing car and lovingly restored. I am a steady reader of this post as it always contains fun and worthwhile material. Thanks :)

These air hoses sure look like the originals on my Ferrari 400GT. Where can they be sourced ?

Wide body 80 s sec. very cool. Drove a few reg body sec back then. Great cars( S class was probably The best car in the world at the time) my friend had an AMG 4 valve twin overhead cam version, very expensive at the time, perhaps a future classic.

I should mention that the most important item to get period-correct should be the gloves, they have to say "NUOVA Lamborghini" to cover the period of the Downdraft.

Here is my kit which I have no shame in sharing again, I'm re-posting as the details may help someone.

    Wrenches must be Kravm.

Knowing that I wanted to go all-out with a restoration, I searched for something of corresponding quality.

Incidentally this set was purchased from a gentleman who got it new in 1986 and never even opened it, still in the factory plastic cover!

    The triangle was from Raymond.

Here is my own AMG - Downdraft combination from the late 80s.

I have to say that 1988 300CE AMG 'Hammer' was simply absolutely mental, just bonkers, it had such an angry sound and for the time it was so fast

    Arvid,

Thank you for the kind words and for following, I am running into a good number of people who tell me they check this thread every single day!

Interestingly a good number of them are people know to me to be Ferrari afficionados...

As a rule I try to make all my posts contain useful material, so I'm glad to hear you perceive it that way.

As regards the air-hoses, please start with our friend Emilio EMILIO SPARE PARTS, not only is he based in Italy and has a vast network, but he loves & personally owns Lamborghinis.

To narrow it down further, this is obviously a 1987 HLA-prefix car.

Yes ,awesome pair. The CE, E class based, was a huge hit at the time, the Hammer, most have been crazy, good memories, drove a white on burgundy 88 CEO all over Sweden in 89. 17Amg wheels,a first in that dia.

No idea how the RHD Downdraft ended up on here for last year's Season edition, but it did.

    I have C 701 BYX as ZAGC005ADFLA12863 first registered August the 2nd 1985.

If a spontaneous build of a one-off model by a bespoke model company is any indication of a car being viewed as a little bit special then this is quite interesting.

Garage43 Garage43: Exclusive High Quality Hand Built Models by Laurent Tay 's master craftsman Laurent Tay has made a model of our specific Countach!

It was just sold on EBay:
    Garaje 43 1986 Lamborghini Countach 5000 QV #GLA12997

    The text says:
"1/43 scale 1986 Lamborghini Countach 5000 QV #GLA12997 built by Garage43. Based on an LP500S MR Collection kit [MRK74] and extensively modified to replicate the ex Patrick Mimran Quattrovalvole, from the downdraft engine cover …. This is a genuinely one-off model that is unlikely to ever be repeated and certainly not to this ultra-high standard. However, with extreme reluctance, it has to be let go now to make room for new projects. As a matter of interest, the actual car is currently undergoing a complete "nut-n-bolt" restoration by Joe Sackey in the United States".

Look, it even has Swiss spec lights, and I must say the color is much more Bordeaux Speciale than Chianti.

Joe, that model was mine before I sold it a few months back - I commissioned it in 2008. A colossal amount of work went into it, and great care was taken to match as many details as possible (such as the Swiss spec lights). I think at one stage there I must have had nearly every picture there was of Raymond's car to ensure I did not miss anything.... As well as the MR Collection kit, we also sacrificed a perfectly good LookSmart Countach Evo to provide the QV engine cover! The paint on the model actually is genuine VW "Chianti Perlcolor" from their early '90s Corrado, VW LC3/00P. Those pictures do not just quite bring the colour out properly. I had to provide the paint from here in New Zealand, as Volkswagen was not available in Singapore (where Garage43 is), until some years after that model Corrado came out - which made it almost impossible to get only a small amount of that specific colour over there directly.

The end result was stunning, with the only two real detractors being things Garage43 simply could not fix; the overall shape of the MR body (far too 'fat'), and the oversized wheel diameter. The badging also proved impossible to replicate with 100% accuracy; Laurent managed the Bull emblem by transplanting one from an MR Collection Murciélago prototype, but with the "quattrovalvole" script we finally had to admit defeat and finish the model without it.

It cost a fortune all up, but my only regret is that I finally sold it! However, I still have it in the back of my mind to do it again some day, this time using one of Make Up Co.'s 1/43 scale QVs as a base and trying to match Joe's revised colour if at all possible...

    Wow Jono.

Great to hear the story behind it!

The funny thing is, in spite of being a Lamborghini enthusiast for 30 years, there isn't a single model in my office (if I ever owned one my kids soon put them in their collections) so I'm not really a model guy and never even heard of your model of GLA12997 till it was brought to my attention yesterday!

Sadly also, I did not get the chance to buy this one either.

I think one day I'll commission a specialist build a large-scale model of the car.

Bravo on your effort, its a fine piece, and I daresay the color and details are very close to the car's original actual spec.

    Thanks for sharing!
