Well here is the third Rosso Speciale Downdraft I know, the one which I posted earlier in the thread http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/144531849-post1952.html full Euro spec, European license plates of some kind, no wing, silver wheels. Maybe somebody knows the chassis number.
Hi, Asher was the Rod Stewart car, Strudwick was J435, another white 88. F926OYR was new to balmoral coal, whoever they were!
Black car is reg E39LMR - it was a full US spec car converted to European spec. Went to many of the LCUK events. We did know the chassis number...anyone? Found it HLA12091. I have the original of that Modena Cars ad - it was in Classic and Sportscar, but I don't have the date anywhere I'm afraid.
My friend spendt a few weeks on Gottland every sommer. In the late 80s. Remember looking at pictures of a red candy. Countach. He got ti know the owner at the time. And to my best recolection told him he just got the car delivered in the red candy from the factory. Reason why aDD would be most likely. Almost traded my 328 gts for a DD at Lasse Jønnson in Karlstad at the time. Was very Countach motivated, reason why i remember anything Countach related. Trade never happened. Ironic thing is the car i ended up with 20 years later is the same color combo as Lasses Car.
New jersey, the land of traffic studies... the land of all weird studies indeed...It the car another exercise in sales? (those > 6 years will indeed understand)
Not sure which car Ellagirl is referring to, but, I am referring to this Downdraft in Rosso Speciale. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks. I recall Nick Asher's 88.5 was the first factory side-skirted Countach I saw. I also recall going on Asher's offshore speedboat off Cowes to watch the World Class 1 event, memorable. Brian Strudwick's car was delivered via Jersey and he drive it a lot in company of Mike Taylor, with the other Jersey-registered Downdraft. Balmoral Coal PLC was based in London, and it's Director bought F 926 OYR. Lots of memories from back in the day.
I found this pic whilst looking for something else "F18MBO" photos Lamborghini Countach. Great Britain Something about it is ringing alarm bells, but im not sure if that's just because of the odd surrounds around the indicator covers and the fact that on an F plate I'd also expect it to be an 88.5 (though our UK DVLA has been known to make mistakes, or cars don't immediately get registered etc)
Did not know that! In the USA we have a handful of Fuelie cars converted to Downdrafts by Evans Automotive from the days when the parts were available.
So Robert, to be clear, the 2nd UK Downdraft also destroyed and no longer exists would be the Pearl White/Green D 351 GYX? This makes 2 RHD Downdrafts gone if I am correct. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Also, did you ever tell us the chassis number of the former C 705 BYX, the Autocar Bruntingthorpe Test car? (seen here @ Goodwood) Image Unavailable, Please Login
as i said something didn't ring true, but what were the giveaways ? as an aside in the UK a kit/replica usually wears a a Q plate, although if enough of the original donor survives (or you find a nice testing centre) then the original plate can go on it - and then be swapped for what is clearly a private plate in the pic. BUT you cant put a newer plate on than the original, so the donor for this had to be a car built no later than 1988
Last question - I know this is Denise Pearson's (of the group 5 Star) Downdraft as seen by her vanity plate, but is it also JLA12396? Image Unavailable, Please Login
It screams kit from a mile away - lights, dimensions, panel fit, bumper/spat fit, stance, basically everything you see is off.
ta i knew something wasnt right, but couldnt place it doesnt help that i was under the impression that UK kits were all basically the right shape as a mould was taken from one of the hire countachs. thanks, and back on with the DD thread
YOu see immediately the frames around the plexi cover for the side indicator, they are about double the size. The rest of the body doesn't look bad.
While there may be more than one car in this colour, I have heard 5 between DD AND FI, the colour was created at the request of the first owners of my car. Image Unavailable, Please Login
You are correct indeed. Second of my photos in a row you have reposted in a row, for which thank you very much - the Rod Stewart 88 and this photo of this pearl QV are both mine. Obviously I retain copyright on all my photos, but I do prefer it if people say when they are using my photos...
