Gentlemen, Can anyone tell me why some downdraft have the plastic airbox and how many have the larger aluminum box as shown in the figure? Image Unavailable, Please Login
This box is mainly for emission reasons, vaporization within the carbs, low pressure control to keep it closed when the engine is off. Can be seen in US and Arabian cars, not european.
The first Lamborghini Countach 5000 QV "Downdraft" car was imported to the USA. The car was bought by the famous "king of chicken wings", the owner of the fast food chain Copeland's - Al Copeland. This businessman was obsessed with speed. For example, he had the fastest Boss Hoss motorcycle, which he modified to 600 hp (using nitrous oxide). and a high-speed 40-foot motorboat "Skater", which developed a speed of 166 miles per hour. His boat racing team became the US champion 5 times. The Countach 5000 QV took center stage at Copeland's garage in New Orleans. From an interview with Al in 2001: "I went through a stage in my life when I was quite actively collecting cars," Copeland explains, adding that I used to have about 50 cars. "I've sold most of them over the years. Now I only have a Lamborghini Countach and a 62-year-old Cadillac convertible…Now I have only a Lamborghini Countach and a 62-year-old Cadillac convertible… Mostly I prefer cars that I like to drive, because it's interesting to really drive them and enjoy them." The Countach 5000 QV remained with Ed for 23 years until his death in 2008 and had only 9,750 miles on the odometer. Image Unavailable, Please Login
You mean Al, not Ed. We've posted the car's entire history earlier in this thread. FLA12835 no longer has USA DOT side markers or rear & front wings none of which came with the car, we sold it to a lovely gentleman who still has it. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Downdraft captured by a friend at the Lamborghini factory Museo, it still has the old Pirelli P Zeros on it. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Al was quite a character, we saw seen the video when it was posted @ 5 years ago. Checking our books we've sold FLA12835 a total of 3 times, the current owner being the one who's the most dedicated to it as he actually drives it extensively, sometimes it takes a few tries for a car to find a longterm home.
Joe I believe I might still have the rear Wing in my garage which I removed. While I wouls never put it back on, It should probably be reuined with the car as it has a very very cools story to go with it (i so regret selling this car!!) Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Countach steering wheel and ignition switch cover removal: Just want to share with you that the ring nut holding the steering wheel can be removed by an 8$ socket used for Honda cycles (see attached photo). The ignition switch is a bit more tricky: in addition to the two visible bolt (from below) there are 4 hidden ones that can be opened by a 5mm Allen wrench inserted from the front. Please see the exposed upper cover and the holes for the screws + the Allen wrench (which I cut to fit). Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Open throttle on Bonn dealer plates. This image reminds me of sometime in the 80s heading down to the South of France in the Countach when we were passed by not one but no less than six Countchs from the German Owners Club all full throttle. The Glory Days Image Unavailable, Please Login
Did we decide what chassis number F1 star Pierluigi Martini's speed-test Downdraft was? FWIW the 2nd image proves that the car was only stop-watch timed isn't correct. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
