Hey all, I'm trying to pull the drive shafts (half-shafts) on my CT. I got all the bolts out, and managed to free the flange bolted to the tranny/diff housing, but I can't seem to get the flange on the hub carrier free. In looking at the parts breakdown, it appears that the half-shaft CV joint just bolts to the hub carrier with a gasket sandwiched in between and should break free. I've tried hitting the flange with a block of wood and deadblow hammer, but it won't budge. Is there a hidden clip or bolt holding this assembly together?

There are 4 bolts and 2 roll pins (not shown in the parts manual). Sometimes they are a little stubborn.

Where are the roll pins, and how do you remove them? I don't see anything like that.

If you notice in the picture that the CV joint has 6 holes yet only 4 bolts.

The roll pins act as dowels but fit pretty tightly. I don't know of an easy way to get them out.

You are probably on the right track with the wood block, just keep working it until you can get a prybar in there. Be careful not to damage the rings that the boots attach to.

Thanks 2NA. I saw those two extra holes in the picture and wondered what they were for. I will try to get a wedge in between the flanges and start working it loose. I'll start with some hard plastic or brass. I'd hate to score the surface since it's gasketed.

Make sure to rotate the axle 180 degrees after every other hit. That will make the job go much easier. A good chunk of 2x4 wood with a hefty hammer always works great!
