Thanks, Ian. Yes, this yellow Countach at Maltin's showroom is indeed the same 1120040, after complete restoration. There are similar photos of it in the great book of John Leaman: 'Lambo!' About the red one, I can't guess what car it is... The forum automatically resizes photos to a max 800x600 pixels, which is fine for only one photo. I kindly suggest to scan and attach them one by one.
In the village of Arpy, Aosta Valley... near the Mont Blanc. Certainly the last place on earth you'd expect to see a Countach! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nice to see. I really miss that car and if it had been today I would never have built it back to narrow LP400 form. I think we can be more and more sure that it was the factory who made it a W.W. lookalike? You can also clearly see that it has got those head rest less Countach seats. Thanks for the pic. Lars-Erik
Victor do you know the chassis numbers of the Countach LP400 which participated in Japans Supercar race series in the late 70s? What about the various LP400 featured in Japan's annual Supercar Shows? Image Unavailable, Please Login
There were many LP400 (either delivered new or purchased from other countries and sent to Japan) that attended these shows. Lastly, these from 1978 by a car-spotter photographing Countachs and other sports cars apparently on their way to an event. I believe the first & second images shows a 1978 Countach S S1. Before anyone asks, sorry, I do not have high-res versions of these images but thought they should be posted here for reference and everyone's viewing pleasure. Yes indeed, all those photos belong here. Thank you for posting them! These were taken at different events in 1978 / 1979 The LP400 with racing number 20 & 12 is #1120130 with number 14: #1120214 with bumber 77: #1120068 with number 4: #1120242 with number 1: #1120224
This is famous #1120082, the factory brochure LP400. She got different side blinkers installed in Japan, and fog lamps removed.
To this date, it is still not known how many LP400 exactly were imported into Japan at that time. I counted at least 37 or 38 LP400 were imported into Japan between 1974 & 1977, of which only 9 came directly from the Lamborghini factory. From the photos: 1. & 7. Nero - Nero #1120182 2. Giallo Fly - Tabacco #1120264 3. Blu Notte - Bianco #1120092 4. Rosso - Bianco/Rosso #1120184 5. Argento Metallizzato - Bianco #1120280 6. Arancio - Bianco #1120108 8. Arancio - Nero #1120186 9. Nero - Senape #1120130 10. Rosso - Bianco #1120214
Those two LP400, Arancio - Nero #1120186 & Nero - Bianco #1120150 have remained mostly original. I have seen and been in #1120186 last Sunday, riding over the speed limit by 100 km/h... I'll share pics in the main thread later! Yellow - Senape is #1120164 Rosso - Bianco is eather #1120208 or #1120240, I still can't be sure. But she is being restored at the moment, so hopefully she will resurface soon. And the Wolf looking Countach is indeed the one and only Wolf's #1120148.
Only 1 LP400S has been imported into Japan in 1978, before the Countach would become somewhat illegal, and no more could be imported nor registered if they did not have a registration before that year. That red Countach S is Rosso Siviglia - Tabacco #1121004. The red LP400 with chrome mirrors looks like #1120032, but I'm not 100% sure.
I'm really glad that you did a good research on those Japanese cars. I had many many many unidentified LP400 pictures, it really puzzled me. Without great help from some real Japanse LP400 enthusiasts, it is a mission impossible. So many modifications, paint jobs, interior changes, it's VERY hard to keep track of those cars. But you are doing a perfect job Victor, Grazie Mille!
That is awesome Victor, thank you. So, if anyone ever tells you the Countach never raced, send them this! http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/145406087-post110.html
You're very welcome! It took me years to identify so many LP400. But it couldn't have been done without the great help of some friends, enthusiasts and LP400 owners, from all around the world! This is Team Work. We are able to find/identify some LP400 new to us every month. Now we have like 148 of the 150! It takes an unthinkable amount of time to double-check all the information. I am also very thankful to you Marcel, Joe, and others who contribute a lot to the research!
Great work Victor! Here are also some japanese LP400.
