If you had a car on the market now that you would buy at the price asked more or less , what would it be? Pretend it was for you and you are out shopping. If you have a reason please share.

I am going to sound incredibly biased but I would buy our Rosso Speciale Downdraft! : ) 1 of 3 in a unique livery and, yes with THE Downdraft specification!

It's easy to be biased when such a rare and incredible car is available! This one right?

As stated in another thread, I always prefer a wing but regardless this is a pleasure to look at

Yes! We installed the original wheel and put the wheels back to original Silver specification.

John's car has been returned to the wing & silver wheels, both original to this Downdraft as shown below.

In answer to the OP's question which is easily answered, if I lived in any country including the USA where I could use LHD, then John's car below is my recommended buy, if I lived in a country that required a RHD car then Graeme's car in London would be the buy

I would agree with this. The only reason why I didn't look seriously at John's car is because I was very particular about the year and color combination I desired. If you have flexibility in that area, I wouldn't hesitate buying it. It's baffling to me that it's still available.

Your quest of pursuing your teenage dream car in the exact same livery as you first saw one is completely understandable.

That said, John's car being still available does not surprise me especially, the ability to recognize a window of opportunity is not something that all prospective Countach necessarily have, I have seen nice Countachs sit around for a while, and the very week they sell 3 different guys will call me with the usual story "I coulda, shoulda....can you find me another?", meanwhile, any car collection can be complimented with a 1-of-3 Rosso Speciale Downdraft I think.

looks very good with silver wheels, wing combo, i think this color needed the DRAMA the wing brings, a Spiff,if you like.

John’s car would be my pick as well. Definitely an opportunity and I happen to like the color.

Rosso Speciale is a great color!

Good option, but significantly more expensive I think, and whilst Nero/Champagne is quite handsome, it's a classic and therefore prolific livery not nearly as rare as Rosso Speciale/Panna & burgundy piping.

It did and apparently is back on the market.

Being objective and trying to be more helpful, there are 2 basic reasons I would buy GLA12914 if I were in the market to buy my first Countach today.

    1. It is a Downdraft.
The Downdraft is the most powerful production Countach built by both Automobili Ferruccio Lambrghini SpA & Nuova Automobili Lamborghini SpA, period. That alone makes it arguably the ultimate Countach, with other reasons besides. The power translates into a fantastic driving experience.
Also, it's unique carbureted four-valve V12 engine configuration makes the Downdraft absolutely unique amongst all Supercars of any make, the desirability of which will manifest itself as the cars become better understood and well-known. Lightning in a bottle.
Full disclosure, I'm a proud Downdraft owner whose 32-year Countach journey spanning all variants has convinced me in recent years that this is the best overall Countach bar none, and as a result I unashamedly champion it's cause. Further full disclosure, mine's not for sale.

    2. It is in a Special Color.
Hence the name Rosso Speciale. In the classic Lamborghini world, especially with Countachs, because the cars are all about aesthetic flamboyance and extroverted design, special liveries matter, they are desirable and translate into added value, and in an upswing market can bring 10-20% more in value. For example: besides the fact that it was nicely restored, the reason the rare-liveried Verde Metallizzato Countach we imported sold at auction brought close to a million dollars was the striking color, a factor that I believe accounted for close to a 20% premium on value. We see this with other marques such as Ferraris, and in my experienced opinion, special colors should not be dismissed or underestimated. Rosso Speciale was appointed on just 3 known Downdrafts, one in central Europe, one in Canada, and this one in the USA. Put it this way, if you're rolling along the Freeway to the Amelia Island Concours in a Rosso Speciale Downdraft, chances are, you won't see another one coming the other way. Bottom line, it's rare.

    Hope this is helpful.

I like the dd & really like this car. I prefer the wing, but that is just a personal preference & changeable. As far as rare, you're unlikely to see another Countach of any variant - except at a show. I think if I was shopping, I'd go after a S2. I really like the way they sit & the low body. I'm pinched up in my 5000s (which I love dearly) @ 6' so a little more wouldn't matter. The details like the ac controls are a bonus. The 4 liter engine is a sweetheart. An S1 with Bravos & SW gauges would be even more. A fun dilemma!

The rosso speciale example which was based in central europe was repainted black years ago and is obviously located in Japan.

I did not know that, what a shame, I posted an image of it in the Downdraft thread from years ago when it was Rosso Speciale.
