Just wondering if younpainted the calipers or had then plated
Bear in mind ATE had a number of different period-correct finishes circa 1980, this being one of them.
These were powdercoated but the intent was to achieve closer to the plating color. It may be a little too 'rich' looking (plating is usually more subtle) but in reality it's very close. We chose this because of assumed increased durability.
I don't know if this was changed on later cars, but earlier engines had exhaust studs that threaded into the block, and headers were attached with tall brass nuts. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you - we're using these nuts for the header-to-muffler connections but did not use them on the block. I will check to see original disassembly pictures and check.
Your thread convinced me to do the same. I am changing all the seals in the master cylender and the brake hoses. Will detail the suspensions and repaint the calipers. Found this Lights 4 Speed - Accessori e ricambi MINI e BMW Thanks for the motivation!
So I'm at the point of looking for tires for my car. I have P7s on there which are old (not the original ones, heh) and which make the car look really good as has been discussed on other forums here. Since the PZeros are the only matched replacement set that one can buy... For the rear the option is clear = 345/35-15 For the front - My car has 205/50-15 but I see other cars have used 225/50-15? I think later cars use the 225 is that correct? Is there a difference on the stance with the P7 vs PZero 205s? I want to stay with the original intended side-wall thickness of the 205/50 but the P7 was more ...bulbous... whereas the PZero appears more rectangular/square shaped in terms of the cross-section. What say you Countach experts?
Fiamm airbox covers re-done with the silkscreen printing on them, rather than stickers... Can anybody confirm whether these were matte, satin, or glossy? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Moving along...front all done and all electrical parts verified working. All the oil and water-systems were tested for pressure (within reason) - most important were the two oil lines going to the front cooler; they are a **** to take off and put back in. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Those are correct. You may want to examine the hardware closely. We found the hardware to be corroded and tarnished/peeling so I disassembled it all and sent it off to be refinished. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here is the hardware refinished and re-assembled, I also treated the rubber, which was fortunately in good condition without any cracking as it had not perished at all. It all helps tremendously as generally the front compartment is the least-nice area of most Countachs. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I believe that's a chrome plating, the original done by the supplier was very brittle, I'm confident what we did will last the next generation and still look nice.
Here's a up the butt shot... Quick question for the experts - were there any notes on the alignment of the check marks on the springs? Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think those paint marks are only for identify correct springs for car model and separate front and rear, as they are sometimes easy to mix. (do correct if I am wrong)
The shop that redid the springs got the correct color paint marks on all of them but when we put them back on the car there was no particular attention given to the orientation of the paint marks...that's what I'm looking to find.
Looking for an opinion here -- for a car restored to original would you consider wrapping the exhaust with the heat blanket wrap such as the one in this picture? It would not be original but would help with the heat in the bay? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Also would you guys consider lining up the firewall/tunnel with heat reflecting shield such as shown in this picture (reference: Lamborghini Countach #GLA12997 Head Gasket Fix) Not original - would it be worth it or look modified/out of place? Hard to say. I had my headers ceramic coated, which helped some. Wrapping might have been better. The heat reflecting material does a great job. Usability wise it's a good idea. Purist wise, I don't know. Both are going to be hard to see. Myself, I couldn't discount a car that was actually better to use in this regard. Pebble beach or judging, maybe not such a good idea. Ask yourself if you see selling the car in the near future, if not and your going to enjoy it - then consider it seriously.
