How about the idea to wrap the headers but not do the engine bay lining. I don't think the lining would come off easily after being baked in due to heat but the header wrap would be reversible with everything in place?
Wrapping also disintegrate with time and use. I would thermally coat the headers both inside and outside and maybe do the rest of the exhaust too. That can be done in satin black (at least the outside) as Joe called for in post #21. In addition to letting more heat out the tail pipe (instead of into the engine and passenger compartments) the coating also acts as an effective rust inhibitor. Laust
Car will probably make 200-500 km/year as a semi-museum piece. Intent is to be Driven (not trailered) to local shows, c'n'c, etc. Great suggestions from everybody, I think the headers are original steel which were rusted and cleaned up/powdercoated so I would not risk them having rust under the wrap. Also if the metal reflector foil doesn't do anything other than lower cabin heat I'd pass on that too...the car engine bay (black) was repainted with durable paint and my intent was to have that last as long as possible since I would hope that a restoration of the car is quite far out.
Quicksilver makes perfect SS Headers, I had mine wrapped and as Chad wrote they have rotten away. Lamborghini Countach #GLA12997 Manifold replacement
Hi All, I need some feedback on the way the parking brake cable attaches to the rear suspension endlinks on the LP400S? See the below picture where the red arrows are. My mechanic mentioned he had found the old ones as the same metal clips as on the air intakes and on the front heater/blower large hose but that doesn't sound right to me? Wouldn't the metal clip eventually damage the outer rubber shield of the parking brake cable? Even if there's not a lot of movement there. In various pictures I've seen zip ties but I'm sure that's not right either. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here is an underside pic of a 500-mile well preserved time-warp car (LP500S) and you can just about see it has zip-ties. This is what I have observed with most cars. That said, I have indeed seen some cars with metal clips your mechanic refers to which are in fact aluminum cable-ties widely used in an automotive application. These are not as large as the clamps and cotter-pins as used on the air-hoses of which you speak. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here are the aluminum cable-ties I'm speaking of, naturally they come in all sizes & lengths. Properly applied and snugly fit they shouldn't harm the parking brake cable, but if that's a concern, now you know why plastic ties were used! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ah fantastic, thank you Joe for the details -- looks like some of the Honda vintage bikes have these ones and some may even be aluminum but coated with a plastic protector. This is what I've been able to find, looks quite similar? [still sourcing these may be a challenge] Image Unavailable, Please Login
You could get "naked ones" and then plastic dip the area you want to protect. It's relatively easy to take off if you don't like the finish or covered too much of the metal. Great thread.
Can't find the naked ones either (yet) but looking...either plastic dip or shrink-wrap tubbing would work great I would think?

The center exhaust fitting went much better than anticipated or predicted. The ANSA exhaust tips lined up correctly on a first try. The pipes connecting the exhaust to the headers are a different story and some finagling is required. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Can somebody enlighten me with whether there were stem caps on the original Countach LP400S and what they were? I think the valve Lamborghini #400601361 did not show a cap? but is that correct? Thank you
Looking spectacular! Curious question. When you adjust the timing, do you move each distributor the same, or turn one at a time when your advancing/retarding?
Looking fantastic ! Lowbody my personal favorite! Changed the automotive world forever. Gave kids an ultimate car fantasy to dream of ..spawned a million posters...and look so much better than the later models when placed side by side...good luck and congrats !!
