I shared this on some Facebook Countach group recently, and it may bring interest here as well: Willing to verify the theory about the very first production Countach 5000S having unique rear emblems "Countach 5 S" instead of "Countach 5000 S" found on the other cars. Now I finally have the proof and it's no longer a theory! The first 5 cars, VIN # CLA12472, CLA12473, CLA12474, CLA12475, CLA12476 are indeed badged "5 S" while all the ones following CLA12477, until the end of production, are "5000 S". The red one in Germany is on Autoscout24.de it belonged to Willi Weber the Manager of Michael Schumacher.
SADLY the price is € 495,000 .... https://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/details.html?id=289904780&damageUnrepaired=NO_DAMAGE_UNREPAIRED&isSearchRequest=true&makeModelVariant1.makeId=14600&makeModelVariant1.modelId=2&pageNumber=1&scopeId=C&sfmr=false&searchId=413cd729-b163-6c27-2aed-47c36a1e760e
That modified interior hurts my eyes, I think I like my price better than theirs, even though the number I quoted apparently applies to another red LP500S.
Agreed, I'd want to factor in the cost of the rectification work it requires and deduct that from standard LP500S value.
We recently had the opportunity to purchase this incredible Countach 5000S example with 10,000 miles. ELA12703 was owned by a very passionate engineer from 1986 until now, this is arguably one of the best preservation Countach examples I have seen in 15+ years. Original paint, interior, mechanicals... a benchmark car to be greatly appreciated. Nice car. Our cars must have been very close to each other on the production line. I have ELA12701. Is yours a FI car? Cheers Jim
There were only 7 silver Countach 5000S built between 1982 and 1984. But this guide was published in 1983. So after checking all the VINs and build dates, that makes only two candidates : Either CLA12478 (blue interior) or CLA12479 (black interior) @ Geneva 1982 I believe. Also, the wheels are Campagnolo's.
The only proof concerning the true special and unique engine of 1120148 is told in this magazine with the interview of Mr. Wolf at the factory! And no, it is neither a 3.9L nor a 4.9L engine!
Also, if you note the white Jalpa off to the side, it has the black air intakes. That was done on the ‘82 Jalpa’s and the early 83’s until they started painting them the body color. I had a 1983 Jalpa (DLA12071) which had the black intakes. Seems to me, if memory serves me correct, about 5-6 cars after mine was when the color change to body color occured. So, I believe your timeframe is correct. Mike
It would be really interesting to know how many versions this book has had. I think my copy was the first publication in 1983. It only covers the Countach with the intro of the ‘83 USA model with the front wing. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
