I’d preserve it. Most don’t chose that route though.
Knowing how you like to use your Countach/s, I'd say a repaint is for another time, do the minimum to make it correct and enjoy for the next few years.
Continuing the early days of the life of 1120001 and it's development, here's the car after a few hot laps at Misano Circiuit, this is from the original color slide from which a well-known image has previously been published, depicting Bob Wallace in test gear. Image Unavailable, Please Login
A few weeks later back at the Sant Agata factory, 1120001 has gained brake scoops, driving lamps, and the famed pantograph wiper (original mounting holes of the twin wiper units are covered with duct tape). Leave it alone and drive the snot out of it. There maybe a time where a full blown resto is warranted. Now is not that time. Drive it, fix small stuff as you go along. The paint is only original once and sometimes that's where the value is.
They were crude to begin with and then they were extensively tested, I wonder what the true mileage is on 1120001? Agreed with you guys. Meanwhile if I were Scott I'd leave the car in the UK after Iain has finished servicing it and use if for the Countach Convoy to Italy.
Just curious - someone told me the other day that no Countach was delivered from the factory with white wheels - other colors, but never white - is this correct? Keke's car has white wheels and mirrors, but they do appear to have been *done* at the factory after delivery, as there is a picture of him with his car without them. But I've seen records and mentions of other cars delivered with white wheels - can anyone confirm? Mine now have white wheels but were never delivered with them - I know that. But were any delivered with white wheels? Like the Chicago Car show vehicle?
Not at all correct, multiple Countach were delivered with white wheels, some LP400S, LP500S, and I personally witnessed a QV being delivered to Portman Lamborghini fresh off the truck from the factory with white wheels, in fact many QVs were delivered with white wheels.
Restored very authentically in Italy, the color resembles the classic Rio Verde Metallizzato whic h was used on Miuras, Jaramas, Espadas etc. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I believe Rio Verde Metallizzato is the original color of my '71 Jarama GT. But don't quote me, I forgot what Olivier told me years ago. A beautiful color in person. Both my Jarama and '72 P-250 Urraco production #4 - pre-production prototype, were both green. And I usually mix them up on which was which
Peter, your Urraco was verde medio Could you please some pictures of the three roof vents in the Urraco Thread?
Does anyone here use a navigation unit like a Garmin or Navman in their Countach? If so how is it mounted? I am looking at various options, but my biggest concern is mounting it where it's usable. Ideally, usable in the Diablo and Jalpa as well.
Seems likely to be the only option but I wanted to ask. One issue I worry about is the steep rake of the windscreen - some suction cup mounts might end up angling the unit down to much?
I wonder if its on there because of the steep rake of the screen? Seems inconvenient if you need to touch it for anything.
Yes, the steep rake of the windscreen makes it difficult to attach, the severe angle also means you have to lean forward to touch it, and mounting it there is hazardous to visibility at speed IMO - I know this from experience. The gentleman in the video had a co-pilot in the passenger seat operating the device on that rally, but you could mount it on the DS (driver's side) quarter window where you can reach it.
