I know the car you speak of that was on ebay. The car was up I believe for less than 24 hours and sold. When I spoke to the guy Ron who was selling the car he had no idea what it was worth, so in my opinion I would not think this is a price point to use. My opinion again, I do not think there have been enough of these cars to change hands to have an exact worth on them today.

no, the post I remember reading was within 6 month's or so ago, not back in 07 cause that was when you had told me 1121036 was only worth 150k when I had it for sale for and you were looking at it.

tks for the infos, that makes sense: 80k looked like a great deal to me
and it is true that with only 237 cars built, splitted in 3 series ... in all conditions from low miles perfect cars to cars in need of everything....and so few changing hands, it is very hard to put a value on these

on the other hand, i have to say i am a bit sorry to hear it :( because i am always a buyer for a nice LP400S at 80k$ ...i hope they will go down in value so i can put one more in the stable ;)

rereading this post, I want to make clear this is not ment in any bad text, just looking for some reasonable values on the cars.

  5. +1000. I would wager that the new owner considers it worth substantially more. You'll almost always take a beating when you try to unload anything in 24 hours. If anything, it shows what kind of following the Countach has and that it's more liquid than most other things. This one was well bought.

About this LP400S, do you know for how much it was sold? Did Ron tell you?

Out of respect for the new owner who is on this forum, I will let him disclose that information if he so wishes.

The knife cuts both ways...as prices do change with market times and availabilty...and TOP sellers should not set the bench mark..

The same goes with this example...the BOTTOM seller should not and does not set the mark. There were other reasons involved with this low price record sell.

I get so tired of people finding the "Lowest cost" example recently sold and assuming that IS THE market price for all the other cars in that bracket...not correct and not accurate reporting to the community.

In all fairness, of course Tony, Joe and even I at times are going to throw out lower "wholesale" buy prices. It is our business. After all if we always had "retail" prices to report...we would not make money on the re-sale of the car...that is the nature of a Auto re-seller such as the three of us..just truth in reporting. After all we need to feed our kids as well....nothing wrong with making an honest dollar if all are in agreement.

Simple....because you live in FLorida...the third WORST market in the USA...

Other area's including the PNW have actualy seen a rise slightly in the price of homes..not a good example of a fixed asset..."property" against an emotiional purchase such as an "exotic" toy.

Wow!!! If the new owner bought the car for $80k I must say it was the STEAL of the year. Good for him. I tend to believe the seller did not know what he had. These deals happen once in a long time on eBay . Congrats to the new owner!

The Rosso/Bianco S3 car should be heading over to Tony's shop by now. Huge thanks to Tony for performing a thorough PPI last week. The car needs items such as new CV boots, waterpump rebuild and a few other items but overall a very nice car. I am sure other things will need attention as Tony goes through the car.
Thanks also to Joe Sackey....I appreciate your willingness to share your knowledge on these cars:)
Will be sure to post pictures when it comes out of Tony's shop.

    Roy,

Read my post again, I was being sarcastic:

"I do not understand why my house is worth half of what it was in 2007 (actually I do know why)"

I hear from people all the time "why is my car only worth this?" I'm sure you do to. I was just pointing out that like anything else values go up and down.

I was not using the $80K number to misinform the community, there have been lower.

In this market I believe (my opinion) a S3 Countach in good condition is worth $80 - $90K.

That's a lot better than the $50K I paid for my S3 back in 2001 or the $60K I sold it for in 2003 so they are still much higher than they were 7 years ago but not at high as 3 years ago.

    Emilio,

Yes, I am the buyer. I know that to some red is boring on Italian cars but I really love red on the Countach. The only reason I sold my 5000S was to begin the restoration on the black "pawnshop" LP400S (has not happened yet). I considered painting that car red but it really needs to be silver again (original). I really like the Red/white combination on this car. I now need to decide if Tony should take out the speakers in the sills and the dash and put everything back to original specs....and later take off the wing.
I will need another Ansa Sport exhaust from you now though:)

That's what is was worth then... the car was advertised for months between you and Roy.

Then I finally bought it for $160K and back then I still thought it was worth only that until the market went crazy for some reason and the offers kept going up to where I could not say no. I still don't know why they did.

    Brian, congrats again
i believe you bought it well and rosso-bianco is nice!

    i can tell you this:
in your position i would take the wing off and put it back to all original (i also believe red countach looks better wingless)
as for the ANSA: well, i think all countach should have a sport muffler and i will be more than happy to supply one more to you (your former 5000S will have one to ! :) )

p.s. as for the pawn shop car, i love Greg's silver S2 with the early wing, so GO SILVER! :)
