Simple yet very critical to the Countach design. Where do you stand and why?

I must reluctantly say that I did not know this before diving into this thread. The early wing is gorgeous!

Now I don't want to cause too much of a commotion, but I seem to be in the minority here. I think the countach without a wing is naked, confused, and visually unbalanced. I actually think that the original wingless countach is not appealing at all. This is of course because I grew up seeing the car in video games, tv shows, and hot wheels packs, which almost always had the wing. Furthermore, I think it looks bloated and round without a wing, not sporty or sleek. It is the same reason I don't like the huracan, too bulgy and stumpy up front.

I like my cars low and thin, slicing through the air... take the new McLaren Speedtail as an example! Wing or bust for me. The huracan and countach look much better with one!

Please be aware that there are four (4) different wing types placed on Countachs from LP400S through QV.

Also, please note that many QVs (Downdrafts in fact) which were suppled with the 'big' more raked wing.

Yes, we talked about the details about this in another thread. All true, however my assertion caters to the masses of people who would perceive the Countach without being intimately familiar with it...the assertion that there are basically two profiles to the winged car, if you will. For example, the profile of an LP400S with an early tipless wing in an Alpine ad is basically the same as any early wing with tips, so the average observer taking a poll isn't at that level of detail. Other wings didn't make it that far into popular media for me to consider a factor for this poll. However, if the average observer's clearest memory of the car is of a [FI] QV with its most common wing, I think that the wing is different enough from an earlier wing profile to influence an opinion unknowingly. Booker's comment is telling...how these kinds of things will easily escape notice of the casual observer, yet innocently influence opinion.

Yep, there's a lot to be said about the psychological reinforcement of an image due to consumerism and marketing. My 'concept' of a supercar, hotwheel, video game vehicle, etc were developed on the rough image of icons like the Countach and F50 before I even knew what 12 cylinders and horsepower was! My preference comes from a blissfully ignorant ideal, not a technical and historical understanding.

This is why learning about the other wings actually makes me love the wing even more! My concept of a countach has a wing, and now you're telling me there are cooler wings?! Wing all the way

Sure, understood, but let's not put too much stock in what the masses of people think, they tend to generalize and gloss over important details and lump them together as 'the same' to underscore the shortfall in their knowledge, whereas experienced & thoughtful owners & enthusiasts prefer to be specific and care a great deal about all the subtle details that are present in the 4 different wing types that graced Countachs through the model's production run.

Can go either way. Speaking of performance in a countach these days is moot. If someone wants performance buy a comtemporary car.
the question is really looks, historical sentiment about wings and personal preferences. even if the wing was not "official" it was not disaproved by the factory and has been an integral part of the countadch history with official pictures, famous owners and history books

I should clarify my earlier statement above for the sake of accuracy. It is now my understanding from an exceptional authority that wings were installed at the factory by a third party after leaving the assembly line just prior to delivery. Though an option, Lamborghini never documented the wing as a factory installed piece. This being the case, if I owned a downdraft that had an original wing, I would be inclined to keep it (and vice versa).

Not to speak for him or divulge privileged information, I think his focus is established, but as always, the most difficult phase of Countach acquisition is finding and acquiring the right car, this is the stage at which many have compromised, but if one can remain on target, the outcome will be very satisfying for years to come.

    Teenagers?

  21. At one time, yes.

  22. FWIW, most teenagers (and young people 30ish & under) are using instagram. I would not let my oldest use fb for sometime & then when I did it was a well thanks Dad but no one my age cares about fb.

Yes polls only reflect views of those that are particiopating. The last Presidental election showed just how accurate polls can be.

Overall I prefer without and as indicated in another post I like the early cars best of all, however I voted sometimes/somtimes as every now and then despite thinking its probably wrong I think they look kind of cool, with maybe a set of spot lamps too ....

Their were two recent polls done on FB Countach pages, and the wing wins by a very large margin.
